Syncing Health Timing: Exploring the Interplay of Circadian Rhythms, Obesity, and Cardiovascular Diseases

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythm disruption impairs metabolic regulation, appetite control, and vascular function, promoting obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Evidence highlights a bidirectional relationship where metabolic disorders further disturb circadian timing.

Microbial adaptation to spaceflight is correlated with bacteriophage-encoded functions

open access: yesNature Communications
Evidence from the International Space Station suggests microbial populations are rapidly adapting to the spacecraft environment; however, the mechanism of this adaptation is not understood. Bacteriophages are prolific mediators of bacterial adaptation on

Delayed rainfall diminishes the positive response of soil respiration to warming

open access: yesGrassland Research, EarlyView.
Warming stimulates soil respiration and its components, while delayed rainfall suppresses them. Crucially, delayed rainfall diminishes or even reverses the positive response of soil respiration to warming by intensifying the drought stress, and autotrophic respiration is more vulnerable than heterotrophic respiration under this interaction.

Dormancy and Low Growth States in Microbial Diseases

open access: yes, 2003
All cellular life-forms can exist in replicating and non-replicating states. Organisms replicate only when the conditions are beneficial, and when not replicating they concentrate on survival of these environmental stresses.

Progress in the Role of Mast Cells and Biomolecular Signals in the Mechanism of Postoperative Ileus: From Cellular Activation to Exploration of the Brain–Gut Axis

open access: yesGut Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Postoperative ileus (POI) is a frequent complication after surgical procedures, predominantly manifesting as aberrant gastrointestinal motility, which markedly extends the duration of postoperative recovery for patients. The clinical duration of POI is typically modulated by intricate inflammatory cascades, with mast cells assuming a critical ...

Interactive Effects of Root-Promoting Treatments and Media on Clonal Propagation of Two Western Pine Species

open access: yesPlants
Root-promoting treatments and media are critical for the clonal propagation of Western pine species, yet long-term data for sugar pine (Pinus lambertiana Dougl.) and ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa Dougl. ex C. Lawson) remain limited.

Crosstalk Between Parkinson's Disease and Colorectal Cancer: Genetic Mechanisms, Gut Microbiota, and Therapeutic Insights

open access: yesHealth Care Science, EarlyView.
This review elucidates the crosstalk between Parkinson's disease and colorectal cancer, driven by shared genetics (PRKN, PINK1, DJ‐1) involving oxidative stress, cell cycle regulation, and inflammation. It identifies the gut microbiota—via functional amyloids and short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs)—as a mechanistic bridge, offering insights for dual ...

Arabidopsis thaliana DOF6 negatively affects germination in non-after ripened seeds and interacts with TCP14 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Seed dormancy prevents seeds from germinating under environmental conditions unfavourable for plant growth and development and constitutes an evolutionary advantage.
