Microbial Colonization of Naturally Fermented Olives

2010
Publisher Summary Currently, both green and black olives are fermented “naturally” on an industrial scale, without the addition of lactic acid bacteria starter cultures. Natural (or spontaneous) fermentations typically result from the competitive activities of the indigenous microflora, together with a variety of contaminating microorganisms from ...

Invariance of the Hybrid System in Microbial Fermentation

2009
In this study, we propose a nonlinear hybrid dynamical system to describe the concentrations of extracellular and intracellular substances in the process of bio-dissimilation of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol. An invariance principle is established for the hybrid dynamical system.

Fermented and Microbial Foods

The key part played by micro-organisms in the production of fermented foods is in benign contrast to their role in foodborne illness. In this case, microbial activity can improve keeping quality, safety and the acceptability of a range of food materials.

Microbial Fermentation in Insect Guts

1997
If biological success is measured either by numbers of individuals or diversity of species, insects are undoubtedly the most successful group of animals in the history of life on earth. There are more species of insects than all other animal species combined (Wilson 1992).

Studies of microbial hydrocarbon fermentations

2011
A two part study of hydrocarbon utilization by microorganisms was undertaken. In the first part it was decided to attempt the genetic transformation of Bacillus subtilis with respect to the ability to grow on hydrocarbon carbon source. One hundred forty-four cultures of Bacillus organisms were isolated on a medium with refined kerosene as the sole ...
