Microbial identification

To obtain potential engineering strains , we isolated and purified 421 isolates from rice rhizosphere. Finally, we then identified and established a library of 248 microbial strains.

Biocomputational Strategies for Microbial Drug Target Identification

The complete genome sequences of about 300 bacteria (mostly pathogenic) have been determined, and many more such projects are currently in progress. The detection of bacterial genes that are non-homologous to human genes and are essential for the survival of the pathogen represent a promising means of identifying novel drug targets.

Microbial activity plays a major role in the sedimentary iron cycle. Some microbes gain energy by reducing or oxidizing iron and thus induce changes in the sedimentary iron mineral assemblage. Magnetotactic bacteria engage in controlled, intracellular precipitation of magnetic iron minerals.
