Contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in agriculture represent a growing global challenge for food safety and public health. In this review, we synthesized evidence on how substances such as pharmaceuticals, microplastics, and per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) enter soils, accumulate in crops, and affect ecological and human health. We found

Drivers of inter-year variability of plant production and decomposers across contrasting island ecosystems [PDF]
Despite the likely importance of inter-year dynamics of plant production and consumer biota for driving community- and ecosystem-level processes, very few studies have explored how and why these dynamics vary across contrasting ecosystems.

Global Fluoride Toxicology Landscape: Bibliometric Approaches and Scientific Mapping
ABSTRACT This study analyzed research trends in the 100 most‐cited articles on fluoride toxicology, a topic widely debated due to the toxic effects associated with levels deemed safe for human exposure. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Web of Science‐Core Collection, extracting data such as citation count, authors, keywords, journal ...

USING THE RESPIRATORY QUOTIENT AS A MICROBIAL INDICATOR TO MONITOR SOIL BIODEGRADATION
The effects of nutrient amendments on the variation in time of the respiratory quotient (RQ) were investigated in soil. Microbial activity measured by CO2 production, biomass growth determined by plate counts technique and residual contaminants quantified by gas chromatography analysis were monitored in order to check their relation to RQ fluctuations.

Vergleich bodenbiologischer Eigenschaften ökologischer und konventioneller Praxisflächen: Integration der Forschung in reguläre Lehrveranstaltungen [PDF]
Organic agriculture (OA) soils have often been shown to have a higher soil microbial biomass (SMB), microbial activity (MA) and a higher soil organic matter (SOM) content than conventional soils.

Monitoring the biological activity of the composting process : oxygen uptake rate (OUR), respirometric index (RI) and respiratory quotient (RQ) [PDF]
Composting of several organic wastes of different chemical composition (source-separated organic fraction of municipal solid waste, dewatered raw sludge, dewatered anaerobically digested sludge and paper sludge) was carried out under controlled ...

Recent advances of non‐invasive sensors for smart wearable respiratory monitoring
Respiration contains rich physiological and pathological information, making it one of the most fundamental and continuous vital signs. Respiration monitoring is a non‐invasive and simple, but incredibly powerful, tool for assessing health, managing disease, and tracking fitness.

Overcoming organic and nitrogen overload in thermophilic anaerobic digestion of pig slurry by coupling a microbial electrolysis cell [PDF]
The combination of the anaerobic digestion (AD) process with a microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) coupled to an ammonia stripping unit as a post-treatment was assessed both in series operation, to improve the quality of the effluent, and in loop ...
