Effect of Different Vegetation Types on the Rhizosphere Soil Microbial Community Structure in the Loess Plateau of China

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2013
The Loess Plateau in China is one of the most eroded areas in the world. Accordingly, vegetation restoration has been implemented in this area over the past two decades to remedy the soil degradation problem.

Changes to soil quality indicators following conversion to organic vegetable production (OF0401) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This is the final report of Defra project OF0401. The attached report document starts with an Executive Summary, from which this text is extracted. The aim of this 1 year study was to examine how key functional indicators of soil quality are affected by

Major contribution of particle‐associated microbes to deep‐sea organic carbon degradation

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract The biological carbon pump mediates the export of particulate organic carbon from the euphotic zone to the deep ocean, where it provides the base of the food web. Although deep‐sea microbial metabolism is considered to be largely associated with macroscopic particles, such as marine snow, the specific contribution of particle‐associated ...

Response of soil fungi and biological processes to crop residues in no-tillage system

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Tropical, 2016
Soil management and crop rotation can directly affect the soil microbial community. This study aimed at determining soil quality indicators and soilborne fungi in a no-tillage system. A randomized blocks design, in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement, was used.

Microbial Activity Response to Solar Radiation across Contrasting Environmental Conditions in Salar de Huasco, Northern Chilean Altiplano [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus. In high altitude environments, extreme levels of solar radiation and important differences of ionic concentrations over narrow spatial scales may modulate microbial activity.

Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae and Heavy Metal Contamination in Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus): A Public Health Risk Assessment in Bangladesh

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 2026.
Species‐specific 16S‐23S ITS and antibiotic resistance IntI, blaCTX‐M, blaTEM and blaSHV genes of Klebsiella pneumoniae were detected, and most of the isolates were multidrug‐resistant. Target hazard quotient values of Fe for >1 revealed a higher level of hazard index. Target cancer risk values of Fe exceeded the recommended value (<10−4).

Atmosphere Behavior in Gas-Closed Mouse-Algal Systems: An Experimental and Modelling Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
A dual approach of mathematical modelling and laboratory experimentation aimed at examining the gas exchange characteristics of artificial animal/plant systems closed to the ambient atmosphere was initiated.

Microbial respiration, the engine of ocean deoxygenation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Microbial plankton respiration is the key determinant in the balance between the storage of organic carbon in the oceans or its conversion to carbon dioxide with accompanying consumption of dissolved oxygen.

Biogeochemical asymmetry and the diversification of tropical rain forests in Borneo: The endmember hypothesis

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 4-14, January 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Mixed dipterocarp lowland tropical rain forests on Oxisols and Ultisols and heath forests on Spodosols are considered distinct vegetation types in Borneo. Here we present the endmember hypothesis of ecosystem diversification, which describes a continuum of forest ...

Chemical and microbiological indicators of quality in a yellow oxissol under conventional tillage of different ages

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2017
Brazil's agricultural production in Savanna soils has been highlighted due to significant yield gains in these areas. The present study aimed to evaluate changes in soil chemical and biological indicators of Piauí Savanna areas after 1 (PC1), 3 (PC3) and
