A Bayesian approach to the evaluation of risk-based microbiological criteria for \uppercaseCampylobacter in broiler meat [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Statistics 2015, Vol. 9, No. 3, 1415-1432, 2015
Shifting from traditional hazard-based food safety management toward risk-based management requires statistical methods for evaluating intermediate targets in food production, such as microbiological criteria (MC), in terms of their effects on human risk of illness.

Predicting Antimicrobial Resistance in the Intensive Care Unit [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a risk for patients and a burden for the healthcare system. However, AMR assays typically take several days. This study develops predictive models for AMR based on easily available clinical and microbiological predictors, including patient demographics, hospital stay data, diagnoses, clinical features, and ...

Cell-size maintenance: universal strategy revealed [PDF]

open access: yesTrends in Microbiology, Vol. 23, No. 1, 4-6, 2015, 2015
How cells maintain a stable size has fascinated scientists since the beginning of modern biology, but has remained largely mysterious. Recently, however, the ability to analyze single bacteria in real time has provided new, important quantitative insights into this long-standing question in cell biology.

Ratchet transport with subdiffusion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We introduce a model which incorporate the subdiffusive dynamics and the ratchet effect. Using a subordination ideology, we show that the resulting directed transport is sublinear, $ \simeq Jt^{\beta}$, $\beta < 1$. The proposed model may be relevant to a phenomenon of saltatory microbiological motility.

Non-typhoidal Salmonella infections across India: emergence of a neglected group of enteric pathogens

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University Medical Sciences, 2022
Objective: Non-typhoidal Salmonellae (NTS) are a neglected group of enteric pathogens whose prevalence is increasing at alarming rates across India. The disease burden is being underestimated because of a lack of effective surveillance of NTS infections ...

BioGAN: An unpaired GAN-based image to image translation model for microbiological images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
A diversified dataset is crucial for training a well-generalized supervised computer vision algorithm. However, in the field of microbiology, generation and annotation of a diverse dataset including field-taken images are time consuming, costly, and in some cases impossible.

Gender shapes the formation of review paper collaborations in microbiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Women are underrepresented in senior academic positions within microbiology globally. Studies show that gender bias affects the progression of women in academia, but there is evidence that improving conscious awareness of bias can improve equity in this ...
