Effects of snake fungal disease (ophidiomycosis) on the skin microbiome across two major experimental scales. [PDF]

open access: yesConserv Biol
Abstract Emerging infectious diseases are increasingly recognized as a significant threat to global biodiversity conservation. Elucidating the relationship between pathogens and the host microbiome could lead to novel approaches for mitigating disease impacts.

Human microbiomes in cancer development and therapy

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 4, Issue 2, April 2023., 2023
Several microbes, such as Fn, Helicobacter pylori, Fusobacterium, Staphylococcus aureus, Peptostreptococcus anaerobius, and Porphyromonas gingivalis, promote cancer progression. Other microbes, such as Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Clostridium butyricum, Bacillus subtilis, Bifidobacteria, Lactobacoilli, Streptococcus thermophilus, Leptotrichia ...

Circadian rhythms of hosts and their gut microbiomes: Implications for animal physiology and ecology

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 37, Issue 3, Page 476-487, March 2023., 2023
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Daily light–dark cycles shape the circadian physiology and behaviour of nearly all organisms, with variation in circadian phenotypes having cascading effects on individual fitness, species interactions and species co‐evolution.

Cerebral cavernous malformations: Typical and atypical imaging characteristics

open access: yesJournal of Neuroimaging, Volume 33, Issue 2, Page 202-217, March/April 2023., 2023
Abstract Cavernous malformations (CMs) are benign vascular malformations that maybe seen anywhere in the central nervous system. They are dynamic lesions, growing or shrinking over time and only rarely remaining stable. Size varies from a few millimeters to a few centimeters.

Treatment of Progressive Cherubism during the Second Dental Transitional Phase with Calcitonin

open access: yesCase Reports in Dentistry, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Cherubism is an autosomal dominant disease with variable expression. Aggressive forms of untreated cherubism may lead to severe malformation of the maxillofacial skeleton, developing tooth germs and teeth. Scarcely described and empirically applied interventional therapies during active stages of the disease try to limit the damage and deformation ...

How seeds and growth dynamics influence plant size and yield: Integrating trait relationships into ontogeny

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 110, Issue 11, Page 2684-2700, November 2022., 2022
Our results provide important insights into the proximal mechanisms that operate during ontogeny and drive variation in mature plant size in annual herbs. Of the three traits considered (a), seed mass and duration of vegetative growth had the greatest influence on plant size at maturity (b).

Technological characterization of vaginal probiotic lactobacilli: resistance to osmotic stress and strains compatibility [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Aims: The aim was to evaluate the osmotic stress resistance of vaginal beneficial probiotic strains, their growth kinetics and parameters when growing in salt-added culture media, and their compatibility to go further in the design of a probiotic formula
