Intestinal Microbiota Metabolism and Atherosclerosis

open access: yesChinese Medical Journal, 2015
This review aimed to summarize the relationship between intestinal microbiota metabolism and cardiovascular disease (CVD) and to propose a novel CVD therapeutic target. This study was based on data obtained from PubMed and EMBASE up to June 30, 2015.

The gut microbiota and its relation to mental illnesses through the microbiota-gut-brain axis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
La microbiota intestinal humana es el conjunto de microorganismos que habitan de forma simbiótica en el intestino. El establecimiento de la comunidad microbiana intestinal parece ser un proceso escalonado que cubre el primer año de vida. Los factores que

A Microbial Lipid‐ATP Synthase Axis Fuels NK Cell Antitumor Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study focuses on the mechanism by which gut microbiota‐derived outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) regulate NK cell antitumor activity. B. intestinalis is identified to decrease extra‐intestinal tumor growth via its OMVs enriched in sphingosine (SP).

Are fecal samples an appropriate proxy for amphibian intestinal microbiota?

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
The intestinal microbiota, an invisible organ supporting a host's survival, has essential roles in metabolism, immunity, growth, and development. Since intestinal microbiota influences a host's biology, application of such data to wildlife conservation ...

Strategies to modulate the intestinal microbiota and their effects on nutrient utilization, performance, and health of poultry

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Biotechnology, 2019
Poultry is widely produced and consumed meat globally. Its demand is expected to continue increasing to meet the animal protein requirement for ever-increasing human population. Thus, the challenge that poultry scientists and industry face are to produce

β‐Elemene Rescues Radiation‐Induced Enteritis by Orchestrating a Host‐Microbiome Circuit That Fuels Epigenetic DNA Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study elucidates that β‐elemene promotes cellular uptake of L. gasseri‐derived lactate by enhancing the membrane translocation of MCT1 in a CD147‐dependent manner. Intracellular lactate, through the lactylation of RBBP4 at the K26 site, recruits EP300 to the promoter regions of downstream genes (POLD1/POLD3), catalyzing H3K27ac modification.

Intestinal Microbiota in Cardiovascular Health and Disease: JACC State-of-the-Art Review

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 2019
Despite major strides in reducing cardiovascular disease (CVD) burden with modification of classical CVD risk factors, significant residual risks remain.

A Chirality‐Converted Bacteriolytic Dodecapeptide Regulates Vibrio‐Induced Polymicrobial Infection and Ameliorates Invasion‐Associated Gut Microbiota Disequilibrium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multidrug‐resistant Vibrio infections are rising rapidly and threaten coastal populations worldwide. This study introduces D‐zp37, a chirality‐engineered antimicrobial peptide with exceptional potency against resistant Vibrio species. D‐zp37 kills planktonic cells, blocks mixed‐species biofilms, disrupts essential bacterial stress responses, and shows ...

Gut microbiota and intestinal FXR mediate the clinical benefits of metformin

open access: yesNature Medicine, 2018
The anti-hyperglycemic effect of metformin is believed to be caused by its direct action on signaling processes in hepatocytes, leading to lower hepatic gluconeogenesis.

Analyzing the functionality of the human intestinal microbiota by stable isotope probing

open access: yes, 2010
Key words: gut bacteria, dietary carbohydrates, digestion, RNA-SIP, TIM-2, HITChip, human trial The human gastro-intestinal (GI) tract comprises a series of complex and dynamic organs ranging from the stomach to the distal colon, which harbor immense ...
