Microburst Teaching and Learning
Medical Teacher, 2001Amidst changes in the health care field with requirements for increased efficiency and limited time for teaching, there is a need for a teaching-learning model which maximizes the learning process and is exciting, fun, and motivating for both teacher and learner. Microburst Teaching and Learning is one strategy for combining various teaching styles and

Escaping a microburst with turbulence
Proceedings of the 2000 American Control Conference. ACC (IEEE Cat. No.00CH36334), 2000This paper compares three escape strategies for microburst encounters during final landing approach: altitude guidance, dive guidance, and pitch guidance. In the paper, two different approaches are used for comparison. 1) In a sample analysis approach, typical samples of the time histories of various variables are analyzed. 2) In a statistical approach,

The authors examine the Microburst Framework and the literature on Cloud and Mobile Computing with a focus on the educators’ thinking processes and the power of the constructivist learning environment interactions. The Microburst Framework is designed to address the increased thinking processes needed in Cloud and Mobile computing, and is based upon ...

Microbursts: a hazard for aircraft
Nature, 1985Microbursts are believed to have been responsible for several aircraft accidents in recent years. We report here laboratory experiments which show that when a descending column of dense fluid reaches the ground and begins to spread out horizontally, an intense vortex with a horizontal axis forms at the leading edge of the outflowing air.

Concentration Measurements in Experimental Microbursts
AIAA Journal, 1997Concentration measurements can be employed to examine relationships between local temperature decreases and expected wind velocities. The local concentration of heavy fluid in experimental microbursts was determined using planar laser-induced fluorescence.

Relativistic electron microbursts
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1992We report the first satellite observations of relativistic (>1 MeV) electron precipitation in microbursts with measured durations of less than 1 s. Microbursts of lower‐energy electrons (10–100 keV) have been found to occur preferentially in the early daylight hours and to be closely associated with VLF chorus emissions.

Microburst phenomena: 3. An association between microbursts and VLF chorus
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1968Observations made with the Injun 3 satellite of bursts of precipitating Ee ≥ 40-kev electrons and of VLF chorus emission have revealed their simultaneous occurrence. Observed microbursts are always accompanied by a group of VLF chorus emissions; chorus is not necessarily accompanied by microbursts. The maximum region of microburst occurrence from 0400 ≤

Experimental investigation of microbursts
Experiments in Fluids, 1996An isolated dynamic microburst is modelled in the laboratory by releasing an elevated volume of salt water solution which is slightly heavier than ambient fresh water, allowing it to fall onto a horizontal plate and develop into a turbulent microburst vortex ring.
