Application-driven Reexamination of Datacenter Microbursts

ACM SIGMETRICS Performance Evaluation Review
Microbursts are microsecond-scale congestion events that have a severe negative impact on the performance of datacenter networks. Despite various methods proposed to mitigate microbursts, recent studies show that microbursts and their negative effects still persist in datacenters.

Dynamics and Fine Structure of a Microburst

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1990
Abstract Details of the structure of a moderate reflectivity microburst were provided by dual-Doppler radar measurements during the Phoenix II convective boundary layer experiment. The dated allowed high resolution of the descending microburst in both time and space.

Turbulence structure in microburst phenomena

Journal of Aircraft, 1987
The efect on turbulence of a variable mean wind along the flight path of an aircraft is modeled and analyzed. It is found that the effect of a variable head or tail wind alters the magnitude of the length-scale of sensed microburst turbulence, rendering turbulence more random than usually encountered in the upper atmosphere.
