BARREL Observations of Microburst Events With a Slowly‐Varying Component
Electron microburst precipitation has been shown to have significant potential for depletion of the outer radiation belt. We present observations from the Balloon Array for Radiation belt Relativistic Electron Losses (BARREL) of six (five unique and one ...

Evidence of Microbursts Observed Near the Equatorial Plane in the Outer Van Allen Radiation Belt
We present the first evidence of electron microbursts observed near the equatorial plane in Earth's outer radiation belt. We observed the microbursts on 31 March 2017 with the Magnetic Electron Ion Spectrometer and Radiation Belt Storm Probes Ion ...

Abstract Whistler‐mode chorus waves play a key role in driving radiation belt dynamics by enabling both acceleration of electrons to relativistic energies as well as their loss into the atmosphere via pitch‐angle scattering. The ratio between the electron plasma frequency (fpe ${f}_{pe}$) and the electron gyrofrequency (fce ${f}_{ce}$) significantly ...

Downbursts are strong downdrafts of negatively buoyant air associated with convective storms and are capable of producing severe near-surface winds. Microbursts and macrobursts are subcategories of downbursts with the horizontal extent of damaging winds ...

Micrometeorological Observations of a Microburst in Southern Finland [PDF]
On the afternoon of 3 July 2004 in Hyytiälä (Juupajoki, Finland), convective cells produced a strong downburst causing forest damage. The SMEAR II field station, situated near the damage site, enabled a unique micrometeorological analysis of a microburst with differences above and inside the canopy.

Mechanisms of Projected Changes in Thunderstorm Downburst Environments Across the United States
Abstract Responses of downdraft convective available potential energy (DCAPE) to global warming were investigated using the Community Earth System Model (CESM2) under a high‐emission scenario through the year 2100. DCAPE is projected to increase by 5%–12% on average in most areas, independently of wind shear.

Concepts and models of fire refugia are increasingly components of forest management and adaptation discussions in the context of wildland fire, forest and habitat conservation, and global change. Here we provide an overview of fire refugia concepts and products being actively developed and applied in forests of the PNW (Washington, Oregon, California),

Observational Evidence for the Origin of Repetitive Chorus Emissions
Chorus waves, discovered as a series of repetitive coherent emissions, are well known for producing hazard radiation environments in Earth's magnetosphere.
