In humans, diabetic microangiopathy affects arterioles, capillaries and venules throughout the body. This fact signifies the unity of the vascular occurrences. The pathology of the microchannels functional or structural, has a variable dynamic natural history where localized abnormalities are commonly found at different stages of their development.

Acoustophoresis in shallow microchannels
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2010Acoustophoretic (AP) motion of spherical polystyrene particles in a steady pressure driven flow is investigated in shallow microchannels, where the channel height is comparable to the particle diameter. Particle trajectories at different ultrasonic actuation amplitudes are extracted by a particle tracking algorithm.

DNA Dynamics in a Microchannel
Physical Review Letters, 2003An extended Brownian dynamics simulation method is used to characterize the dynamics of long DNA molecules flowing in microchannels. The relaxation time increases due to confinement in agreement with scaling predictions. During flow the molecules migrate toward the channel center line, and thereby segregate according to molecular weight.

Surface Conduction in a Microchannel
Langmuir, 2018Ionic current through a microchannel has drawn significant attention not only for fundamental electrokinetic research but also for the development of novel micro/nanofluidic applications. Among various ion transport mechanisms, surface conduction, which is a predominant mechanism in micro/nanofluidic devices, has been theoretically characterized based ...

Electroosmotic Flow in Microchannels
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2001The electroosmotic flow induced by an applied electrostatic potential field through microchannels between two parallel plates and a 90 degrees bend is analyzed in this work. A nonlinear, two-dimensional Poisson-Boltzmann equation governing the electrical double-layer field and the Laplace equation governing the electrostatic field distribution in ...

Electroosmotic mixing in microchannels
Lab on a Chip, 2004Mixing is an essential, yet challenging, process step for many Lab on a Chip (LOC) applications. This paper presents a method of mixing for microfluidic devices that relies upon electroosmotic flow. In physical tests and in computer simulations, we periodically vary the electric field with time to mix two aqueous solutions.

Ultrasonic agitation in microchannels
Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2004This paper describes an acoustic method for inducing rotating vortex flows in microchannels. An ultrasonic crystal is used to create an acoustic standing wave field in the channel and thus induce a Rayleigh flow transverse to the laminar flow in the channel. Mixing in microchannels is strictly diffusion-limited because of the laminar flow, a transverse

Optoelectronic reconfigurable microchannels
Lab on a Chip, 2011This paper reports a new optoelectronic reconfigurable microchannel (OERM) technology which uses low-power light to create and reconfigure microchannels within seconds. This technology thereby removes the need for complicated, on-chip fluidic interconnects and enables real-time modification of microchannel networks. In essence, OERM technology is based

Particle Transport in Microchannels
Numerical Heat Transfer, Part B: Fundamentals, 2006A numerical model for particle transport in microchannel is presented. This article focuses on situations where the sizes of the particles are comparable to the sizes of the channels. The present approach is validated against (1) flow around stationary, (2) flow around forced rotating, (3) flow around freely rotating cylinders and (4) sedimentation of ...

Chaotic Mixer for Microchannels
Science, 2002It is difficult to mix solutions in microchannels. Under typical operating conditions, flows in these channels are laminar—the spontaneous fluctuations of velocity that tend to homogenize fluids in turbulent flows are absent, and molecular diffusion across the channels is slow.
