Otolith Increments and Elements: Assessing a Recently Discovered Population of Weather Loach
The introduction of aquatic non‐native species into novel systems may have negative impacts on native biodiversity. Introduced species can predate native species, compete for resources, transmit diseases, hybridise and degrade habitat.

Sulfur isotopes in otoliths allow discrimination of anadromous and non-anadromous ecotypes of sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) [PDF]
Oncorhynchus nerka occur both as anadromous sockeye salmon that spend most of their life in the ocean, and as non-anadromous kokanee salmon that remain in fresh water their entire lives.

Sodium Induced Beneficial Effects in Wide Bandgap Cu(In,Ga)S2 Solar Cell With 15.7% Efficiency
Wide bandgap Cu(In,Ga)S2 absorbers grown on soda‐lime glass (SLG) were optimized by introducing additional sodium (Na) via in situ NaF co‐evaporation. Optimal Na incorporation enhanced crystallinity, minimized Ga fluctuations across the depth, suppressed bulk defects, and reduced non‐radiative losses.

Nanotrapping and the thermodynamics of optical tweezers [PDF]
Particles that can be trapped in optical tweezers range from tens of microns down to tens of nanometres in size. Interestingly, this size range includes large macromolecules.

ABSTRACT Fisheries management relies on accurate stock assessments, which in turn depend on precise age information. Recent molecular tools called ‘epigenetic clocks’ harness age‐related DNA methylation changes to build accurate and precise age‐prediction models.

M551 metals melting experiment [PDF]
Electron beam welding studies were conducted in the Skylab M551 metals melting experiment, on three different materials; namely 2219-T87 aluminum alloy, 304L stainless steel, and commercially pure tantalum (0.5 wt % columbium).

Strong population structure deduced from genetics, otolith chemistry and parasite abundances explains vulnerability to localized fishery collapse in a large Sciaenid fish, Protonibea diacanthus [PDF]
As pressure on coastal marine resources is increasing globally, the need to quantitatively assess vulnerable fish stocks is crucial in order to avoid the ecological consequences of stock depletions.

ABSTRACT We investigated whether statolith microchemistry analysis could classify ommastrephid and loliginid squid species into fishery stocks. Statolith nucleus (early life stage) and edge (life stage at time before catch) of Illex coindetii (Verany, 1839) and Loligo forbesii (Steenstrup, 1856) from various areas of the North East Atlantic Ocean and ...

Photophoretic trampoline - Interaction of single airborne absorbing droplets with light
We present the light-induced manipulation of absorbing liquid droplets in air. Ink droplets from a printer cartridge are used to demonstrate that absorbing liquids - just like their solid counterparts - can interact with regions of high light intensity ...
