Taxonomic dissection of the genus Micrococcus: Kocuria gen. nov., Nesterenkonia gen. nov., Kytococcus gen. nov., Dermacoccus gen. nov., and Micrococcus Cohn 1872 gen. emend.

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic Bacteriology, 1995
The results of a phylogenetic and chemotaxonomic analysis of the genus Micrococcus indicated that it is significantly heterogeneous. Except for Micrococcus lylae, no species groups phylogenetically with the type species of the genus, Micrococcus luteus ...

Salt tolerance of bacteria isolated from tropical marine fish and prawn [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Salt tolerance of selected cultures of Pseudomonas, Moraxella, Vibrio, Micrococcus, Acinetobacter and Flavobacteria/ Cytophaga was determined. More than 80% of the cultures belonging to each of the above genera, were capable of growth in presence of 1.5 ...

Bacterial Diversity in Deep‐Sea Sediments of the North Atlantic Ocean and Their Biosynthesis of Secondary Metabolites

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 4, August 2025.
In this study, we isolated culturable bacteria associated with oceanic sediments and studied their production of secondary metabolites using metabolomics and genetic screening. Bacteria were cultivated from depths as great as 2000 m below sea level, with the majority of culturable taxa from all sampling sites belonging to the Pseudomonadota phylum. Our

Influences of plant maternal effects, chemotype, and environment on the leaf bacterial community

open access: yesPlant Biology, Volume 27, Issue 5, Page 903-912, August 2025.
Plant maternal effects and growth environment, rather than terpenoid chemotype, determine the leaf microbial community of Tanacetum vulgare, but specific terpenoids are correlated with the abundance of certain bacteria. Abstract Plant individuals within a species can differ markedly in their leaf chemical composition, forming so‐called chemotypes ...

Degradation of Microcystin LR, Oxytetracycline and Amphicillin by Four Native Bacteria Species

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Forestry and Environment, 2017
Pollution reaches its most serious proportion in past few decades and adversely effect on animals and human health. Reduction of pollutant in the environment take place with microbial metabolism and remediation studies by microbes have proved their ...

The spoilage flora of vacuum-packaged, sodium nitrite or potassium nitrate treated, cold-smoked rainbow trout stored at 4°C or 8°C [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/01681605The spoilage flora of vacuum-packaged, salted, cold-smoked rainbow trout fillets, with or without the addition of nitrate or nitrite, stored at 4°C and 8°C, was studied. Of 620 isolates, lactic acid bacteria were the

Chemical Composition and Synergistic Antimicrobial Effects of Essential Oils From Four Commonly Used Satureja Species in Combination With Two Conventional Antibiotics

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 22, Issue 7, July 2025.
The chemical composition and the in vitro synergistic antimicrobial effects of four Satureja essential oils were investigated. Essential oils from Satureja montana and S. hortensis displayed strong antimicrobial effects, whereas S. calamintha and S. alpina exhibited relatively weaker antimicrobial activity.

The status of the genus Micrococcus [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic Bacteriology, 1967
SUMMARY The genus Micrococcus has had an irregular history, and there is a need for the designation, with international approval, of a neotype strain for the type species, M. luteus. The only strain which has been proposed for designation is ATCC 398. The genus Micrococcus has not yet been clearly distinguished from Staphylococcus .
