Fibrillin microfibrils are widely distributed extracellular matrix assemblies that endow elastic and nonelastic connective tissues with long-range elasticity. They direct tropoelastin deposition during elastic fibrillogenesis and form an outer mantle for mature elastic fibers.

Microfibrils in the myotendon junctions
Cells Tissues Organs, 1978Myotendon junctions in the rectus abdominis muscles of bull frogs were examined by the fixation combination of tannic acid and glutaraldehyde using electron microscopy. The features observed on myotendon junctions were the following: (1) There were many deep invaginations of muscle cell membrane at the end of the muscle fibers.

Analytical Biochemistry, 1998
A method is described for the purification of collagen VI microfibrils and fibrillin-containing microfibrils, respectively. High M(r) microfibril-rich preparations isolated from nuchal ligament by bacterial collagenase digestion and size fractionation were purified by CsCl density gradient centrifugation.

Proteomic analysis of fibrillin‐rich microfibrils
PROTEOMICS, 2006Abstract MS has been used to investigate the composition of fibrillin‐rich microfibrils from non‐elastic and elastic tissues, and to compare fibrillin‐1 tryptic fingerprints derived from whole zonules, microfibrils and recombinant fibrillin‐1.
