Induction Motor Starting in Islanded Microgrids
IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, 2013Motor loads require high amount of reactive power for a short period during their startup. The high reactive power drawn from the system causes voltage dips at startup time and potentially overvoltage after motor startup is over. The voltage dip and overvoltage may cause the relays to trip and the system to go unstable.

Microgrids energy trading in islanding mode
2012 IEEE Third International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm), 2012In this paper, we address the case where two microgrids are isolated from the main power grid but can exchange energy with each other in a peer-to-peer (P2P) manner. The goal is to minimize the total cost resulting from energy generation and transportation, while each microgrid satisfies its local power demand.

Cooperative Scheduling of An Isolated Island Microgrid
2018 5th IEEE International Conference on Cloud Computing and Intelligence Systems (CCIS), 2018With the increasing cost of fossil fuels, the use of renewable sources of power generation has become an inevitable reality. However, the utilization rate of photovoltaic power generation is very low, and most of the energy is wasted. In this paper, a scheduling method is proposed to maximize the use of solar energy. The upper layer can adjust the load

Forecast-based Optimization of Islanded Microgrids
2018 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT-Europe), 2018In the context of the energy transition, the operational management of microgrids becomes an issue of increasing importance. In this paper, we compare two optimization models for planning generators and storage units in an islanded microgrid, while dealing with uncertainty in load- and PV-forecasts.

Enhancing Flexibility of an Islanded Microgrid With Electric Springs
IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, 2019An electric spring (ES) is effective in enhancing the operational flexibility and facilitating renewable energy integration. An ES can determine the operation status of the connected noncritical loads (NCLs) by adjusting its output voltage. It is possible to use NCLs as operation resources for renewable integration.

Microgrid islanding operation experience
22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2013), 2013This paper describes the experience of islanding operation of a microgrid located in Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA)'s distribution network. The equipment for islanding operation and resynchronization were installed to enable the islanding operation of the microgrid.

Islanding control of DG in microgrids
2009 IEEE 6th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2009This paper discusses islanding control of power electronics interfaced distributed generation (DG) systems in microgrids. Particularly, the following topics will be addressed: microgrid sytem configurations and features, grid-connected system control mode, transient analysis during power outage, islanding detection and load shedding, standalone system ...

Stochastic analysis of islanded microgrid
2020 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2020With the dependence of utilities on the renewable energy resources (RES) and more emphasis on decentralized power system, the more and more small grids as an autonomous control grids in the form of the microgrid is the need of hour. For the steady state analysis of the micro-grid with large penetration of RES, the deterministic methods are not ...

Detection of Islanding for Microgrid Based on Discrimination Factor of Islanding
2020 21st National Power Systems Conference (NPSC), 2020The present work proposes an islanding identification scheme based on the discriminating factor of islanding (DFI) extracted by the superimposed angle of impedance. The suggested methodology effectively identifies islanding within half of the cycle, discriminates islanding events (IEs) from non-islanding events (NIEs) at 0% power mismatch (PM), and ...

Unintentional islanding detection in microgrid
2017 International Conference on Energy, Communication, Data Analytics and Soft Computing (ICECDS), 2017With the growing demand of electricity, conventional generation is no longer the most efficient method. This brings the concept of distributed generation in the picture, in which there are generation sources at load end. This type of structure is called microgrid. The concept of microgrid is still under development.
