Nucleation and Clarification of Polyamides With Supramolecular Additives

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate the synthesis and use of a novel class of supramolecular additives based on bisurea derivatives, which act as efficient nucleating and clarifying agents for semicrystalline thermoplastic polyamide 6 (PA6). These additives are able to induce the crystallization of PA6 already at a concentration of 0.02 wt.%.

Purine Molecular Interactions Determine Anisotropic Shape of Zebrafish Biogenic Crystals

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Many organisms self‐organize crystals for vision, pigmentation, or storage. In zebrafish, iridophores produce anisotropic crystals in iridosomes. Using imaging and genetic tools, crystal growth is shown to favor the b‐axis, shaped by guanine‐to‐hypoxanthine ratios and hydrogen bonding resulting thereof.

A low-cost electric micromanipulator and its application to single-cell electroporation

open access: yesBiophysics and Physicobiology
Micromanipulation techniques are essential in studies of cell function, both for single cells and for cell collectives. Various types of micromanipulators are now commercially available.

Microinjection‐enabled gene silencing in first instar larvae of western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis, reveals vital genes for larval survival

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a microinjection technique to deliver dsRNA into the hemolymph of first instar larval thrips (L1s) via the foreleg coxa, enhancing survival rates by minimizing internal tissue damage. Significant knockdown of V‐ATPase‐B, CYP3653A2, and ApoLp‐II/I was achieved, with silencing of CYP3653A2 or ApoLp‐II/I increasing larval mortality ...

Role of mitochondrial complex I genes in host plant expansion of Bactrocera tau (Tephritidae: Diptera) by CRISPR/Cas9 system

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The role of 3 mitochondrial complex I gene in host expansion of Bactrocera tau was verified by CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing system. A stable homogenous strain (Btndufa7‐/‐) of B.tau was established after silencing Ndufa7. The reduced size of larvae and pupae of Ndufa7 knockout strain was first found. Then different levels of fitness and relative expression ...

COMPARISON OF THREE DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES OF GENE TRANSFER IN HUMPBACK GROUPER ( ) CROMILEPTES ALTIVELIS

open access: yesBiotropia: The Southeast Asian Journal of Tropical Biology, 2011
Humpback grouper is one of the most cultured fishes in Asia, including Indonesia. Themain problem faced by humpback culture is its slow growth rate. One of the methods that willbe more effective and efficient to solve the problem is using transgenic ...
