From micromasers to microlasers
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe, 1994The one-atom maser or micromaser is, in contrary to ordinary masers and lasers, a pure quantum device operating with only a few photons and less than one pump atom on the average in the maser cavity. It is thus an ideal device to study quantum phenomena such as the generation of nonclassical light.

Starch-Based Biological Microlasers
ACS Nano, 2016Microlasers with good biocompatibility are of great significance to the detection of tiny changes in biological systems. Most current biolasers were realized through the introduction of biomaterials into various external resonators, resulting in an increase of difficulties in application. Here, we used starch as the host to build dye@starch microlasers

Optical microresonators are of interest for studies of quantum electrodynamic (QED) phenomena as well as for low threshold microlasers and efficient LEDs. As the optical mode volume of a microresonator approaches a cubic wavelength, the number of modes interacting with the optically active spectral region in the microresonator approaches unity.

Optics Structured light, in the form of helical wavefronts, provides an additional degree of freedom to encode information for optical communications. Creating light beams with the desired amount of optical angular momentum, or twist, has usually been achieved with bulk optic devices. Miao et al.

A scanned laser microscope with no moving parts is described. The source for this device is an array of 250 000 microlasers on a single substrate, each laser being typically 2 mm in diameter. The entire array is imaged on the microscope's object plane, but only one laser emits light at a given instant.

We have developed a microlaser encoder that can detect displacements relative to an external grating scale with a resolution on the order of 10 nm. Its size is only a few tens of a percent of a conventional encoder's. A long-lasting InP laser diode with a wavelength of 1550 nm was bonded, along with several photodiode chips, within an alignment ...

An Ultralow-Threshold Microlaser
EQEC 96 1996 European Quantum Electronic Conference EQEC-96, 1996In our experiment Nd3+ ions are pumped with a diode laser at 807nm using a resonant WG mode. The coupling to this mode is achieved via frustrated total internal reflection using a high index prism. The emission from the ions is then coupled out via the Same prism and is diagnosed using a spectrometer and a Fabry-Perot.

Abstract The cooperative dynamics of a microlaser consisting of two threelevel atoms interacting with a pump field and two quantized cavity modes forming a radiative cascade are studied. Adiabatic elimination of one mode leads to a strong dynamical entanglement between the internal states of the atoms which allows us to study the effects of a cavity ...
