Effect of cultivar and soil characteristics on nutritional value in organic and conventional wheat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Evidence of greater nutritional value in organic crops is currently a subject of intense debate. Our objectives in this study were to test for grain mineral concentration in 35 winter wheat cultivars in paired organic and conventional systems, and to ...

Heavy Metal Bioaccumulation in Solanum torvum (Sw.) (Turkey Berry) From the Bono and Ahafo Regions: Nutritional Potential and Toxicological Risks

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Heavy metal contamination of agricultural soils and subsequent bioaccumulation in food crops poses significant public health concerns, particularly in mining regions. This study investigated heavy metal concentrations in turkey berry (Solanum torvum) fruits and associated soils from three locations in Ghana's mining belt, evaluated soil ...

In Vivo Assessment About the Effects of a Diet Containing Iodine Enriched Foodstuffs: A Pilot Study

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Twenty one healthy volunteers added to their alimentary habits a basket of iodine‐enriched foodstuffs and iodine intake was assessed by measuring the urinary iodine excretion (UIE). The addition to the daily alimentary habits of a basket of foodstuffs added with iodized salt for 2 weeks determines a significant increase in (UIE).

Improving Wheat Bran Properties Using Potential Bioprocesses for Application in Functional Bread Production

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Bioprocessing treatments improved the nutritional value and phenolic content of wheat bran. Substitution of wheat flour with treated wheat bran improved the rheological properties of pan bread dough and increased the nutritional value, phenolic content, antioxidant activity, and freshness of pan bread.

Linking livestock production to human health - creating sustainability through farming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The main dietary risk factors associated with the early onset of the non-communicable diseases (cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer) would seem to be the over-consumption of dietary lipids and the under-consumption of dietary micronutrients. Consumer

Optimizing growth performance of Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) via synergistic effects of biogenic Cu/Ni/Co oxide nanoparticles in conjunction with rice straw and pressmud based vermicompost [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This study is a continuation of previous work, which highlights the nutrient enhancement by using rice straw (RS) and pressmud (PM) on vermicomposting. Herein, we demonstrate the significant impact of Moringa oleifera derived Cu/Ni/Co oxide nanoparticles (TmONs) in conjunction with these vermicompost on the growth performance of Abelmoschus esculentus.
