Bioinspired and bristled microparticles for ultrasensitive pressure and strain sensors

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Biological sensory organelles are often structurally optimized for high sensitivity. Tactile hairs or bristles are ubiquitous mechanosensory organelles in insects.

Polyferrocene‐Based Cubosomes: Conversion to Magnetic Mesoporous Microparticles, Supramolecular Modification, and Oxidation Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyferrocene block copolymers are synthesized and assembled into micron‐sized polymer cubosomes with double diamond lattice and pore diameter of ≈30 nm. The ferrocene functionality is retained within the polymer cubosome wall as demonstrated on supramolecular modification, and oxidative disassembly.

Synergistic optimization of microstructures and properties of electrodeposited Ni–CeO2 composite coatings with CeO2 microparticles and CeO2 nanoparticles

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The synergistic mechanism of microparticles and nanoparticles on optimizing microstructures homogeneity and enhancing microhardness and corrosion resistance of mixed coatings was deeply researched by co-electrodepositing CeO2 microparticles and CeO2 ...

Encapsulation of Hydrocortisone and Mesalazine in Zein Microparticles

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2013
Zein was investigated for use as an oral-drug delivery system by loading prednisolone into zein microparticles using coacervation. To investigate the adaptability of this method to other drugs, zein microparticles were loaded with hydrocortisone, which ...

Explanation of the Tao effect

open access: yes, 2005
In a series of experiments Tao and coworkers\cite{tao1,tao2,tao3} found that superconducting microparticles in the presence of a strong electrostatic field aggregate into balls of macroscopic dimensions.

Filamin-A is required for the incorporation of tissue factor into cell-derived microvesicles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We previously reported that the incorporation of tissue factor (TF) into cell-derived microvesicles (MVs) is regulated by the phosphorylation of the cytoplasmic domain of TF.

Encoding Magnetic Anisotropies in Digital Light Processing 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid magnetic device—combining a coaxial coil within a nested Halbach array—is presented, integrated into a DLP 3D printer to enable spatially resolved magnetic field control. This system enables complex, multimodal responses by programming liquid crystal elastomer resins for magnetic and thermal actuation, and by inducing electrically conductive ...

Release of Prometastatic Platelet-Derived Microparticles Induced by Breast Cancer Cells: A Novel Positive Feedback Mechanism for Metastasis

open access: yesTH Open, 2017
Circulating platelets and platelet-derived microparticles are regulators of cancer metastasis. In this study, we show that breast cancer cells induce platelet aggregation and lead to the release of platelet-derived microparticles.
