Micropitting in Hertzian Contacts
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1980This paper shows that both micropits and spalls occur near pure rolling conditions. The first are initiated at the surface and are related to asperity interaction. The second are well described in the literature and will not be discussed here. A model capable of predicting the mechanical conditions under which micropits are generated is presented.

Simplified modellization of gear micropitting
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2002This document gives a simplified method of calculating gear micropitting. The method has been developed by EUROCOPTER. The objective was to provide a model that took into consideration the maximum number of parameters in order to model the different physical phenomena, particularly: an oil-film thickness calculation taking the ...

A micropit for biological cell positioning
2009 IEEE International Conference on Control and Automation, 2009Dielectrophoresis (DEP) may be used to trap or to move biological cells. Automated position control of cells has been proposed to eliminate operator dependent experimental parameter variations and increase throughput of labour intensive laboratory procedures such as couplet fusion for mammalian cloning or plant hybridisation, and cell sorting. However,

The influence of surface roughness and viscosity on micropitting damage
Industrial Lubrication and Tribology, 2021Purpose This study aims to investigate the influence of surface roughness and viscosity on micropitting and their influence sequence. Design/methodology/approach Specimens were made of carburized and quenched 18CrNiMo7-6, and different

Martensite decay in micropitted gears
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2005Metallographic examination performed on a number of micropitted gears has revealed microstructural features similar to those reported in the literature in fatigued bearings, namely, dark etching regions and white etching bands. In addition, a new type of fatigue-induced microstructural constituent was observed close to the surface below asperities ...

Direct observations of a micropit in an elastohydrodynamic contact
Wear, 2004Abstract A hard steel roller from a disc tester which had an isolated micropit and associated cracks on its surface was pressed against a glass plate and subjected to a range of lubricated, rolling–sliding conditions, with the objective of observing the effect on the distribution of film thickness in an EHL contact.

The Effect of a Friction Modifier Additive on Micropitting
Tribology Transactions, 2009Previous studies have shown that many anti-wear additives have a tendency to aggravate micropitting damage in hard steels subjected to rolling sliding contact at low lambda values. This is apparently because anti-wear additives suppress the gradual smoothing of the rough surfaces that takes place when a pure base stock is used under mild conditions ...
