Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2021
The problem of microplastic pollution is now the order of the day in front of everyone's eyes affecting the environment and the health of leaving creature. This work aims to retrace the history of microplastics in a critical way through a substantial bibliographic collection, defining the points still unresolved and those that can be resolved. Presence

Microplastics in Polar Samples [PDF]
Microplastics are increasingly recognized as being globally widespread, but relatively little is known about the presence and abundance of microplastics in samples collected in Polar Regions. Here we review the current knowledge about microplastic occurrence and distribution in polar environments, with a particular focus on the relevance of the data ...

Microplastics and their environmental effects
Environmental Toxicology and Pharmacology, 2023Microplastics (MPs) are acknowledged as emerging contaminants that pose a substantial threat to the environment. The adverse impacts of MP pollution extend across marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems, covering regions from the Tropics to the Poles. Although our comprehension of MP behavior has progressed in recent years, it is still difficult

Microplastic and charred microplastic in the Faafu Atoll, Maldives
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2018Microplastics are recognized as a growing threat for the marine environment that may even affect areas generally considered pristine. In this work we surveyed the microplastic contamination in the Faafu Atoll (Maldives, Indian Ocean) across twelve sampling station, located either inside or outside the reef rim.

Microplasticity in Elgiloy [PDF]
The room temperature microstrain characteristics of Elgiloy (composition in wt%, 40 Co, 20 Cr, 15 Ni, 7 Mo, 2 Mn, 0.1 C, balance Fe) have been determined for a range of microstructures corresponding to various alloy treatments reported previously. The friction stress was found to be constant (σ F=12±3 MN m−2) for the solution treated (after prestrain),

Human Consumption of Microplastics
Environmental Science & Technology, 2019Microplastics are ubiquitous across ecosystems, yet the exposure risk to humans is unresolved. Focusing on the American diet, we evaluated the number of microplastic particles in commonly consumed foods in relation to their recommended daily intake. The potential for microplastic inhalation and how the source of drinking water may affect microplastic ...

Microplastic debris in sandhoppers
Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 2013Adults of the sandhopper Talitrus saltator were fed with dry fish food mixed with polyethylene microspheres (diameter 10-45 mu m). Observations of homogenized guts revealed the presence of microspheres independently of their dimensions. The gut resident time (GRT) was recorded and most of the microspheres are expelled in 24 h.
