Microreactors

open access: yes, 2009
Microreactors open a novel way of chemical synthesis in a highly controlled way. Due to their improved mass and heat transfer, these devices are well suited, e.g., for mixing-sensitive, fast and highly exothermic reactions. Endothermic reactions profit as well from the improved thermal management.

Supported Catalysis in Continuous-Flow Microreactors [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis and Catalysis, 2015
This review surveys the recent developments to perform heterogeneous catalysis in continuous-flow microreactors. Three different types, namely, (i) packed-bed, (ii) monolithic, and (iii) wall-coated approaches are discussed to implement various kinds of ...

Janus subcompartmentalized microreactors

Soft Matter, 2015
We report on Janus subcompartmentalized assemblies with enzyme loaded liposomes entrapped within a polymer carrier capsule - Janus subcompartmentalized microreactors. The concept is based on the use of Pickering emulsions and the subsequent deposition of interacting liposomes and polymer layers.

Microreactors

This chapter introduces the microreactor as a key process intensification (PI) technology, highlighting its numerous advantages, including enhanced heat and mass transfer, inherent safety, strong green chemistry credentials, and improved reaction control. These benefits make microreactors an attractive option for a variety of applications, particularly

Photocatalytic Reduction in Microreactors

Chemistry Letters, 2006
Abstract Photocatalytic reduction of benzaldehyde and nitrotoluene in microspace was investigated by using a microreactor with immobilized titanium dioxide. Advantages of a photocatalytic microreaction system which has a remarkably large surface-to-volume ratio have been examined.

Double Emulsion Droplets as Microreactors for Synthesis of Mesoporous Hydroxyapatite

open access: yesChemistry of Materials, 2009
We introduce a novel approach for synthesizing mesoporous hydroxyapatite (HAp, (Ca)10, (PO4)6(OH)2) using double emulsion droplets as microreactors. By using capillary microfluidic techniques, the size and the geometry of the droplet microreactors can be

Fluorination reactions in microreactors

Chemical Communications, 2008
The DAST-mediated conversion of a range of alcohols to the corresponding fluorides in a microstructured device is described. This safe, practical fluorination method will facilitate reactions currently challenging on large scale.

Chemical Synthesis in Microreactors

2009
To develop a new generation of drugs, pharmaceutical companies need to be able to synthesise and screen novel chemicals with enhanced speed. New technology that would enable a cost neutral step change in the number of potential drug candidates would provide a distinct competitive advantage.
