Using wavelet analysis to examine bark microrelief
Trees, 2013An improved quantification of variations in bark microrelief is presented that uses wavelets on a circular domain from data acquired using the LaserBark™ automated tree measurement system. An important metric of canopy structure, bark microrelief affects both the hydrology and biogeochemistry of forests.

Profilometric characterization of DOEs with continuous microrelief
SPIE Proceedings, 2008Methodology of local characterization of continuous-relief diffractive optical elements has been discussed. The local profile depth can be evaluated using "approximated depth" defined without taking a profile near diffractive zone boundaries into account. Several methods to estimate the approximated depth have been offered.

Diffractive microrelief design for waveguiding beam control
SPIE Proceedings, 2004Introduction of diffractive optical elements (DOEs) opened the possibilty to control amplitude-phase distribution in the cross-section of laser beam. In fact, by use of DOE one can form the beam with pregiven behaviour during propagation through waveguide medium.

The Surface of the Skin — The Microrelief
1993The surface of a body is by definition its outer part which limits it in any direction. More importantly, it is the visible covering of the body. This simple fact has considerable sociological importance, which immediately justifies the interest that researchers have taken in studying the skin for the past 10 years or so.

Rewritable Microrelief Formation on Photoresponsive Hydrogel Layers
Chemistry of Materials, 2007The quick photoresponse of thin hydrogel layers composed of thermoresponsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) with an acrylated spirobenzopyran chromophore incorporated in the polymer backbone is reported. The instant formation of microrelief on a thin hydrogel layer is demonstrated by means of micropatterned light irradiation.

The Spatial Dependence of Soil Surface Microrelief
2006Surface microtopography of tilled soils is subject to spatial and temporal changes. The objective of this study was evaluate the spatial dependence of point elevation data on two cultivated soils located at Northwest Spain. Sixty-six microrelief data sets were obtained on bare plots. Each data set consisted of 4624 point elevations on a 20 mm grid. The

Age-Related Changes of the Human Skin Surface Microrelief
Gerontology, 1990In the present study we describe an original semi-automated image analysis method to quantitate the changes of the geometric properties of cutaneous microrelief with age. The skin surface is composed of very fine lines intersecting each other and forming polygons.

Design of surface microrelief with selective radiative properties
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1994The radiative properties of a material can be modified by its surface microrelief. We show that if the typical length of the surface roughness is smaller than a fraction of wavelength, the roughness can be treated as a homogeneous equivalent layer. Using this model and standard optimization techniques, we have developed an algorithm for the design of ...

THE BATHYMETRY AND MICRORELIEF OF FALSE BAY
Transactions of the Royal Society of South Africa, 1970Summary The paper describes the shape, dimensions and coastline of False Bay and gives the source and accuracy of the data from which a chart was drawn to establish the morphology of the sea-bed of the bay. It goes on to describe the various outstanding features of the bottom, pointing out the overall evenness of the gradients in a N/S direction and ...
