Historical «Visions» of Antonie van Leeuwenhoek

open access: yesАнтибиотики и Химиотерапия, 2020
The article is devoted to the Dutch researcher Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, who for the first time almost 350 years ago saw microorganisms in water with a piece of horseradish root in it with the help of a microscope designed by him.

Automatic Slide-Loader Fluorescence Microscope for Discriminative Enumeration of Subseafloor Life [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Drilling, 2010
The marine subsurface environment is considered the potentially largest ecosystem on Earth, harboring one-tenth of all living biota (Whitman et al., 1998) and comprising diverse microbial components (Inagaki et al., 2003, 2006; Teske, 2006; Inagaki and ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Treatment of chronic apical periodontitis on the basis of the modern concept of endodontics (clinical case)

open access: yesЭндодонтия Today, 2020
Repeated endodontic treatment is often a contentious issue in the process of making a final decision in the preparation of a comprehensive plan for the treatment of a patient at the dental reception and causes great interest among dentists.

Introduction of seed and capsule micromorphological features of the genus Scrophularia (Scrophulariaceae) in Iran

open access: yesیافته‌های نوین در علوم زیستی, 2021
In the present study, seed surface ornamentations in 31 species (34 populations) and the capsule surface sculpturing in five species of the genus Scrophularia L. distributed in Iran were examined using Scanning Electronic Microscopy.

Repair of a perforating internal resorption: two case reports

open access: yesJournal of Dental Sciences, 2016
Internal resorption is a rare condition in permanent teeth, and may result from trauma, caries, or restorative procedures. Internal resorption is usually asymptomatic and is first identified as a round-shaped enlargement of a root-canal space on routine ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Comparative Genomics and Characterization of the Late Promoter pR’ from Shiga Toxin Prophages in Escherichia coli

open access: yesViruses, 2018
Shiga-toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC) causes human illness ranging from mild diarrhea to death. The bacteriophage encoded stx genes are located in the late transcription region, downstream of the antiterminator Q.

Microscopic colitis

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2012
Microscopic colitis may be defined as a clinical syndrome, of unknown etiology, consisting of chronic watery diarrhea, with no alterations in the large bowel at the endoscopic and radiologic evaluation. Therefore, a definitive diagnosis is only possible by histological analysis.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
