Towards Smart Traffic Planning by Traffic Simulation on Microscopic Level

International Journal of Applied Logistics, 2021
In this paper the consequences of road closures considering the introduction of a smart city solution, namely traffic simulation on micro level, are analyzed. The use-case comes from the city of Maribor in Slovenia with about 100 thousand inhabitants.

Microscopic simulations of freeway traffic flow

Proceedings 32nd Annual Simulation Symposium, 2003
The article proposes novel software for traffic simulation. Traffic flow is simulated by allowing individual vehicles to move along a highway in a realistic manner. The vehicle movements are based on a fuzzy knowledge based model of highway driver behavior that contains an extensive set of rules covering all aspects of highway driving, including car ...

A Microscopic Simulator for Freeway Traffic

Networks and Spatial Economics, 2002
In this contribution a micro-simulator for freeway traffic which is coupled to a stream of on-line data stemming from inductive loops is presented. In order to provide network-wide information about the current traffic state a cellular automaton traffic flow model is combined with the measured data.

Validation of stochastic traffic flow model with microscopic traffic simulation

2011 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, 2011
Traffic congestion in urban areas is posing many challenges, and a traffic flow model that accurately predicts traffic conditions can be useful in responding to them. With the limitation of infrastructure and the difficulty for real world experiment, traffic simulation is a good tool for the validation and future potential applications of the traffic ...

Research on integration of microscopic traffic simulation and GIS

2009 IEEE/INFORMS International Conference on Service Operations, Logistics and Informatics, 2009
An application system is presented to implement the integration of microscopic traffic simulation and GIS, and a spatio-temporal data model is proposed as the solution for the integration. We mainly discuss the framework, spatio-temporal data model and dynamic map layer of integrative system.

PARAMICS?Parallel microscopic simulation of road traffic

The Journal of Supercomputing, 1996
This paper describes work done on the original PARAMICS project, which was developed for the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre to examine parallel microscopic road traffic simulation. The simulator, constructed originally for a Thinking Machines Connection Machine (CM-200), uses a data-parallel approach to simulate approximately 200,000 vehicles on ...

Real-Time Traffic Simulation With a Microscopic Model

IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2006
This paper describes a microscopic model that is able to simulate traffic situations in an urban environment in real time for use in driving simulators. Two types of vehicles are considered in the simulation, namely the user-driven vehicle at the center of the simulation model and the other vehicles that interact with it and its surroundings, which ...
