Scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy of nanometer scale metallic features on silicon surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Nanometer scale metals are of great interest due to their potential applications in the future of molecular/atomic scale devices. For example, nanometer scale metal contacts on semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) can determine the ...

Spectrally Programmable Spin‐Polarized Photocurrents in WSe2–NiPS3 Magnetic van der Waals Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Heterostructure photodiode devices of p‐type WSe2 with n‐type NiPS3 constructs spectrally protected spin‐polarized photocurrents. The energy of the excitation photon serves as an independent control parameter for spin‐selective photocurrent generation. ABSTRACT Efficient generation and control of spin‐polarized currents in semiconductors remain central

Poly(Alkoxythiophene) Rod‐Coil Block Copolymers for Organic Electrochemical Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We present the first synthesis of poly(3‐alkoxythiophene) rod‐coil block copolymers as a new architecture for OMIECs. Incorporating PEG and PLLA coils can enhance device performance beyond the homopolymer. The figure‐of‐merit depends uniquely on coil length.

Imide Substitution Drives the Supramolecular Assembly of Perylene Diimide Into Laterally Modulated Metallic/Semiconducting Molecular Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Imide substitution with bulky 2,6‐isopropylphenyl groups induces perylene diimide to self‐assemble on Ag(111) into a monolayer with two coexisting adsorption heights. Molecules closer to the substrate gain metallic character due to charge transfer from the metal, while farther ones remain decoupled and semiconducting.

Uncovering multiscale structure-property correlations via active learning in scanning tunneling microscopy

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
Atomic arrangements and local sub-structures fundamentally influence emergent material functionalities. These structures are conventionally probed using spatially resolved studies and the property correlations are deciphered by a researcher based on ...

The role of scanning electron microscopy in periodontal research

open access: yes, 1988
During recent years a great amount of research has led to a better understanding of the etiology, pathogenesis and pattern of progression of periodontal diseases. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) has contributed to this improvement, mainly with respect

Tailoring Iron Nanostructures on MoS2: The Pivotal Role of Sulfur Vacancies in Growth Morphology and Charge Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The deposition of Iron on pristine MoS2/Au(111) monolayers produces nanoparticles that donate charge to the support, generating Fe+2‐interfacial species. On the contrary, on defect‐engineered MoS2, sulfur vacancies trap sub‐nanometric Fe clusters and host two excess electrons that redistribute locally, suppressing Fe oxidation without formal Mo ...
