When Poor Exciton Dissociation Limits Photocurrents in Organic Solar Cells: Why Low Offset Non‐Fullerene Acceptor Blends Can't Be Efficient

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The energetic offset between the donor and the acceptor components in organic photoactive layers is central to the tradeoff between photovoltage and photocurrent losses. This Perspective covers the most important issues surrounding this topic in non‐fullerene acceptor blends, from the difficulty of accurately determining state energies and driving ...

Adsorption, Single‐Molecule Manipulation, and Self‐Assembly of Borazine on Ag(111)

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
The interaction of borazine with metal supports and the concomitant surface chemistry play important roles in the synthesis of hexagonal boron nitride and the assembly of BN‐doped carbon nanostructures, thus making adsorbed borazine an intriguing model ...

Time-resolved force microscopy using the delay-time modulation method

open access: yesApplied Physics Express
We developed a time-resolved force microscopy technique by integrating atomic force microscopy using a tuning-fork-type cantilever with the delay time modulation method for optical pump-probe light.

Direct Growth of 2D Bilayers on Au(111) for Low‐Coercive Sliding Ferroelectricity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled CVD growth of stacking‐defined bilayer ReS2 on Au(111) enables parallel‐stacked bilayers with intrinsic sliding ferroelectricity, a strong piezoelectric response, and an ultralow coercive voltage. Atomic‐resolution imaging and in situ measurements further reveal the decisive role of clean interfaces in achieving low‐barrier ferroelectric ...

Scanning Probe Microscopy: From Living Cells to the Subatomic Range

open access: yes, 2010
In this chapter the reader will be introduced to scanning probe microscopy of samples varying by seven orders of magnitude in size (Fig. 13.1). The largest samples presented are living cells, measuring some hundreds of micrometers.

INVESTIGATION OF POROUS SILICON BY SCANNING-TUNNELING-MICROSCOPY AND ATOMIC-FORCE MICROSCOPY

open access: yes, 1994
The size and distribution of surface features of porous silicon layers have been investigated by scanning tunneling and atomic force microscopy. Pores and hillocks down to 1-2 nm size were observed, with their shape and distribution on the sample surface

Tailoring Symmetry Breaking in Engineered van der Waals Superlattices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We pioneer a scheme to tailor superpotentials in graphene based on intrinsic substrate electronic orders rather than twist angle. The resulting superpotential folds graphene's Dirac cones to either Γ$\Gamma$ or K‐points, leading to distinct symmetry behaviors.

A Universal van der Waals Tunneling Injector for Monolayer CMOS

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A universal van der Waals injector unlocks polarity‐flexible tunneling contacts for monolayer CMOS. SnSe2, an intrinsically degenerate 2D semiconductor, establishes polarity‐specific band alignments with both WSe2 and MoS2 channels, enabling steep switching, high on/off ratios, and a unified route to low‐power 2D logic.
