Scanning tunneling microscopy of a wheat seed storage protein reveals details of an unusual supersecondary structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Scanning tunneling microscopy has been used to demonstrate that a spiral structure based on -reverse turns is adopted by the repeat sequences present in a group of wheat gluten proteins.

Achieving High ON State Current through Ferroelectric Polarization‐Dependent Interfacial Resistance Switching in Undoped Orthorhombic HfO2 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric tunnel junction devices based on epitaxial undoped ferroelectric HfO2 films demonstrate stable switching endurance of over 106 switching cycles, low write voltages of ±3 V, 16 measured resistance states, and neuromorphic capability.

Imaging electronic states on topological semimetals using scanning tunneling microscopy

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2016
Following the intense studies on topological insulators, significant efforts have recently been devoted to the search for gapless topological systems. These materials not only broaden the topological classification of matter but also provide a condensed ...

Towards Laterally Resolved Ferromagnetic Resonance with Spin-Polarized Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2019
We used a homodyne detection to investigate the gyration of magnetic vortex cores in Fe islands on W(110) with spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy at liquid helium temperatures.

Electrochemical Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

open access: yesAnalytical Sciences, 1994
An ECSTM apparatus with an ideal tip using a homemade SSX-1A STM instrument has been constructed. STM and ECSTM tips were made by electrochemical etching and insulating with paraffin, silicon rubber or epoxy resin under an optical microscope. In situ imaging of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) shows that the leakage current passing through the

Morphology, structure and electronic properties of CdTe surfaces studied by scanning tunneling microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A scanning tunneling microscope has been used to study the surface properties of CdTe crystals. Coupled with scanning tunneling spectroscopy (STS) and atomic force microscopy, the surface morphology, structure and electronic properties of CdTe and CdZnTe

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient

Spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy with quantitative insights into magnetic probes

open access: yesNano Convergence, 2017
Spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (spin-STM/S) have been successfully applied to magnetic characterizations of individual nanostructures. Spin-STM/S is often performed in magnetic fields of up to some Tesla, which may strongly

Two Coexisting Pathways to Volatility in Valence‐Change Memory Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Volatile VCM‐type memristive devices exhibit current relaxation after resistive switching, but their microscopic origin remains debated. Using pulsed measurements and a new Tunnel‐DLTS approach on Pt/SrTiO3/Nb:SrTiO3 devices, we show that post‐SET volatility is predominantly ionic, while electronic contributions—arising from quasi‐Fermi‐level ...

Spin-polarized and possible pseudospin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy in kagome metal FeSn

open access: yesCommunications Physics, 2022
Kagome Lattices provide a platform for studying competing quantum ground states. Lee and colleagues observed the pseudospin texture of FeSn in real space, deepening our understanding of the lattice symmetry-preserving tunneling process in Dirac materials.
