Dielectrically shielded microstrip (DSM) lines
Microstrip lines can be shielded by a dielectric cover to reduce the radiation loss. Experiments carried out using ring resonators showed the insertion loss can be substantially reduced. The effective dielectric constant of these shielded microstrip lines was calculated by the variational method. The results agree very well with experiment.

A modification to earlier work is presented which allows for finite strip thickness in the calculation of microstrip impedance and line wavelength. It shows a considerable improvement in accuracy and scope over some earlier work which included strip thickness, but remains simple in form. This work demonstrates ultra‐high ON‐OFF responsivity of AJP by mechanical switching valve assisted shuttering. The jet relaxation and ON‐OFF delay are substantially eliminated from greater than 35 s, maintaining patterning quality independent of the variations of printing parameters, permitting excellent process stability and universality.
