Bootstrap refinements in tests of microstructure frictions

Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, 2009
Bootstrapping is often used as a substitute for asymptotic distributions when the latter are not available. Recent developments in the theory of the bootstrap show that combining the bootstrap with a known asymptotic distribution yields inferences that improve on those drawn from asymptotic distribution theory or bootstrapping alone.

Refinement of Solidification Microstructures by the MCAST Process

Materials Science Forum, 2010
MCAST (melt conditioning by advanced shear technology) is a novel processing technology developed recently for conditioning liquid metal under intensive forced convection prior to solidification processing. The MCAST process uses a twin screw mechanism to impose a high shear rate and a high intensity of turbulence to the liquid metal, so that the ...

Efficiency of Microstructure Refinement in Ti-Based Alloys

Materials Science Forum, 2021
The influence of various factors on the efficiency of microstructure refinement in two-phase titanium alloys with respect to a well-known Ti-6Al-4V alloy was discussed. The kinetics of microstructure evolution in titanium alloys with a lamellar type α/β microstructure during large plastic deformation depends mainly on temperature and strain rate, type ...

Microstructural refinement of duplex stainless steels

Materials Science and Technology, 1991
AbstractThe experimental results of an investigation of a chemical (alloying) and a physical (deformation) method for refining the microstructure of duplex stainless steels are described. The chemical technique involves alloying with copper. When 3 wt-%Cu is added to a 30Cr–8Ni steel, it was found that the copper precipitation (which is more rapid than

Microstructure Refinement of Magnesium Based Alloy

Materials Science Forum, 2005
Additions of grain refiners based on Ca, Ca/Si, Al3Ti and Al4C3 to pure magnesium and AZ31 alloy result in remarkable microstructure refinement. With proper amount of these refiners addition, the grain size in as-cast ingots is one order of magnitude lower than that without refiner addition. Small amount of refiner addition to alloy AZ31 increases both

Microstructural refinement in melt-spun Nd2Fe14B

Scripta Materialia, 2002
Abstract The phase selection process during solidification of Nd 2 Fe 14 B melt-spun alloys is highly dependent on a few processing parameters. The processing variables that determine the three typical microstructures of melt-spun ribbons are described and a general peritectic rapid solidification model incorporating recalescence is presented.

Microstructural Refinement of Niobium for Superconducting RF Cavities

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2007
The mechanical properties of commercial polycrystalline pure niobium sheet used for superconducting radiofrequency cavities are known to provide inconsistent yield, springback and surface smoothness characteristics when plastically formed into a radiofrequency cavity.

Microstructure Refinement of Steels by TSCR Technology

2009
In this chapter, the microstructure and properties of low carbon steel produced by TSCR (Thin Slab Casting and Rolling) technology are studied, and compared with that of traditional process. The microstructure refinement and austenite recrystallization of low carbon steel produced by TSCR technology are presented.

Simultaneous refinement of structure and microstructure of layered materials

Journal of Applied Crystallography, 2004
The recursive description of stacking in layered crystals, originally developed by Treacyet al.[Proc. R. Soc. London Ser. A(1991),433, 499–520] and implemented in theDIFFaXcode, is enclosed in a non-linear least-squares minimization routine and combined with additional models (of specimen-related broadening and instrumental broadening) to allow the ...

Microstructure refinement with forced convection in aluminium and superalloys

Journal of Materials Science, 1985
The cooling and average local solidification times were determined for slow solidifiation of Al-4.4 wt% Cu alloy under natural convection and under electromagnetically forced axisymmetric rotation during liquid cooling and solidification in graphite moulds. Cooling rates were measured within situ thermocouples.
