Prediction of Mean Grain Size Evolution during the Forging of IN718 Turbine Disc

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
The microstructure evolution during the cogging, upsetting and hot die forging in the manufacture of IN718 turbine disc has been predicted through coupling the microstructure evolution prediction system developed with a commercial finite element software.

3D non-isothermal phase-field simulation of microstructure evolution during selective laser sintering [PDF]

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials, 2019
During selective laser sintering (SLS), the microstructure evolution and local temperature variation interact mutually. Application of conventional isothermal sintering model is thereby insufficient to describe SLS.

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Microstructure evolution of annealed 7075 aluminum alloy and its influence on room-temperature plasticity

open access: yes, 2020
Compared to hot forming, cold forming can manufacture components with higher accuracy and better mechanical properties. However, for some light-weight and high-strength materials, such as 7xxx series aluminum alloy, their room-temperature plasticity is ...
