Disordered microstructure polymer optical fiber for stabilized coherent random fiber laser

Optics Letters, 2013
We have demonstrated the realization of a random polymer fiber laser (RPFL) based on laser dye Pyrromethene 597-doped one-dimensional disordered polymer optical fiber (POF). The stabilized coherent laser action for the disordered POF has been obtained by the weak optical multiple scattering of the polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes nanoparticles in ...

Development of large core microstructured polymer optical fiber

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
In this paper we report the in-house synthesis of optical grade PMMA suitable for fiber development and fabrication of a large core micro-structured polymer optical fiber (mPOF). We have designed an mPOF with a core area of 580 μm2 and single mode performance at a wavelength of 650 nm. The photonic cladding is composed of 3 rings of air holes with a

Microstructured polymer optical fiber sensors for optoacoustic endoscopy

SPIE Proceedings, 2017
Intravascular photoacoustics (IVPA) can complement intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) morphological information adding specificity. A practical IVUS/IVPA catheter is mandatory to have a wideband ultrasonic detector with enough sensitivity despite the necessary miniaturization to be fitted in less than 1 mm to pass through thin vasculature.

Fabrication Conditions for Randomly Microstructured Polymer Optical Fibers

Integrated Photonics Research and Applications/Nanophotonics, 2006
Microstructured polymer optical fiber was fabricated in which bubbles were randomly distributed in the cladding to both guide and scatter light. The effect of fabrication conditions on the fiber structure and properties is discussed.

Coupling in a twin-core microstructured polymer optical fiber

Applied Physics Letters, 2004
Theoretical calculations and experimental results are reported for a microstructured polymer optical fiber twin-core coupler. Beat lengths are calculated using a fully vectorial, Fourier decomposition method, which show that the beat length is extremely sensitive to any core asymmetry. Reasonably good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained.

Sensing characteristics of birefringent microstructured polymer optical fiber

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
We experimentally studied several sensing characteristics of a birefringent microstructured polymer optical fiber. The fiber exhibits a birefringence of the order 2×10 -5 at 1.3 μm because of two small holes adjacent to the core. In this fiber, we measured spectral dependence of phase and group modal birefringence, bending losses, polarimetric ...

Microstructured polymer optical fibers and its application in sensing

2015 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, Signals, Communication and Optimization (EESCO), 2015
Here a microstructured polymer optical fiber is manufactured using suitable polymer material TOPAS , in order to maintain the refractive index contrast to that of the host material and there by reducing the losses. Bragg gratings were inscribed in the core of the microstructured fiber considering the dispersion loss, scattering and shadowing effect due

Tunable attenuator based on polymer microstructured optical fibers

Optoelectronics Letters, 2007
Based on polymer microstructured optical fibers (PMOF) and selective liquid crystal injection technology, a novel temperature control tunable attenuator is designed theoretically in this paper. In our experiments, PMMA microstructured optical fibers with high performance are drawn successfully and the selective injection of liquid crystal 5CB into ...

Ultrahigh-resolution fiber-optic image guides derived from microstructured polymer optical fiber preforms

Optics Letters, 2009
Ultrahigh-resolution fiber-optic image guides--fused image fiber, faceplate, and taper--were fabricated by using microstructured polymer optical fiber (MPOF) preforms composed of two polymers: polymethylmethacrylate and polystyrene. The pixel diameter in the resultant MPOF-based image guides was as small as 3 microm.

Polymer optical microstructured fiber with birefringence induced by stress-applying elements

Optics Letters, 2014
We report on the fabrication of a birefringent microstructured PMMA fiber with polystyrene stress-applying elements located in the solid part of the cladding. A microstructured part of the cladding composed of three rings of holes was made of a technical-grade PMMA by a drilling method.
