Microstructured polymer optical fibers and its application in sensing
2015 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, Signals, Communication and Optimization (EESCO), 2015Here a microstructured polymer optical fiber is manufactured using suitable polymer material TOPAS , in order to maintain the refractive index contrast to that of the host material and there by reducing the losses. Bragg gratings were inscribed in the core of the microstructured fiber considering the dispersion loss, scattering and shadowing effect due

Hybrid active polymer/silica microstructured photonic crystal optical fibers
MRS Proceedings, 2001AbstractWe review several applications of microstructured photonic crystal optical fibers that incorporate active materials infused into the air-holes. The tunable optical characteristics of the materials combined with the unique structure of the fiber enable a number of functionalities including reconfigurability and tunability for various fiber ...

Multigigabit short-reach communication over microstructured polymer optical fiber
Optical Fiber Technology, 2017Abstract In contrast to conventional polymer optical fibers (POF) microstructured POF (mPOF) provide an additional opportunity to control the optical properties of the propagating signals. A particular arrangement of the air holes allows to reduce the number of waveguide modes and thus overcome the bandwidth limitation which is inherent for step ...

Coupling in a twin-core microstructured polymer optical fiber
Applied Physics Letters, 2004Theoretical calculations and experimental results are reported for a microstructured polymer optical fiber twin-core coupler. Beat lengths are calculated using a fully vectorial, Fourier decomposition method, which show that the beat length is extremely sensitive to any core asymmetry. Reasonably good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained.

Microstructured polymer optical fiber-based surface plasmon resonance sensor
SPIE Proceedings, 2012ABSTRACT We propose a surface plasmon resonance sensor based on microstructured polymer optical fiber (mPOF) made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with the cladding having only one layer of air holes near the edge of the fiber. In such sensor, the nanoscale silver metal film can be deposited on the outer side of the fiber, which is easily realized ...

Tunable Single-Polarization Single-Mode Microstructured Polymer Optical Fiber
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2011A new procedure to obtain single-polarization single-mode polymeric optical fibers is reported. The selective polarization confinement loss mechanism is obtained by applying external hydrostatic pressure in a specially designed side-hole microstructured polymer optical fiber.

Microstructured Multicore Polymer Optical Fiber Temperature-insensitive Stress Sensor
Optik, 2019Abstract We describe a novel microstructured multicore polymer optical fiber (m-MPOF) made of PMMA with air-holes running along the entire length of the fiber. In polymer, refractive index decreases with increasing temperature, a negative thermo-optic coefficient which results in the increase of coupling with increasing temperature thus reducing the ...
