Simulation of a model microswimmer
We discuss the modelling of a microswimmer that operates in a 'squirmer' mode, by means of stochastic rotation dynamics. The squirmer that we model can easily be tuned between a 'pusher' and a 'puller'. We examine the flows produced by the squirmer and find that there is good agreement between both the predicted and simulated velocities of locomotion ...

Solution‐Synthesized Multifunctional Janus Nanotree Microswimmer
Synthetic active matters are perfect model systems for non-equilibrium thermodynamics and of great potential for novel biomedical and environmental applications. However, most applications are limited by the complicated and low-yield preparation, while a

The self-propelling motion of the flexible ferromagnetic swimmer is described. Necessary symmetry breaking is achieved by the buckling instability at field inversion. The characteristics of self-propulsion are in good agreement with the numerical calculations of the Floquet multipliers for the ferromagnetic filament under the action of ac magnetic ...

Programmable artificial phototactic microswimmer
Nature Nanotechnology, 2016Phototaxis is commonly observed in motile photosynthetic microorganisms. For example, green algae are capable of swimming towards a light source (positive phototaxis) to receive more energy for photosynthesis, or away from a light source (negative phototaxis) to avoid radiation damage or to hide from predators.

Biohybrid and Bioinspired Magnetic Microswimmers
Small, 2018AbstractMany motile microorganisms swim and navigate in chemically and mechanically complex environments. These organisms can be functionalized and directly used for applications (biohybrid approach), but also inspire designs for fully synthetic microbots.

Three-bead steering microswimmers
Physical Review E, 2018The self-propelled microswimmers have recently attracted considerable attention as model systems for biological cell migration as well as artificial micromachines. A simple and well-studied microswimmer model consists of three identical spherical beads joined by two springs in a linear fashion with active oscillatory forces being applied on the beads ...
