Changes in the microvasculature with age

Microvascular Research, 1978
Abstract The microvasculature of various organs of the rat and of the mesentery of the cat were examined for histochemical changes as a function of age, using the periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) reaction. Arterioles, minute arteries, and nonmuscular venules were histochemically unchanged to approximately 17 months of age in the rat and 8 years in the cat.

Hemorrhagic Shock and the Microvasculature

Comprehensive Physiology, 2018
ABSTRACT The microvasculature plays a central role in the pathophysiology of hemorrhagic shock and is also involved in arguably all therapeutic attempts to reverse or minimize the adverse consequences of shock.

Adrenomedullin and the microvasculature

Trends in Pharmacological Sciences, 2002
The peptide adrenomedullin shows a remarkable range of effects on the vasculature that include vasodilatation, regulation of vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation, inhibition of endothelial apoptosis and promotion of angiogenesis. It is becoming clear that either activation or disruption of adrenomedullin signalling might contribute to many ...

Microvasculature of the pancreas

International journal of pancreatology, 1992
Local or generalized alteration of microcirculation may be expected in diseases of the pancreas. Changes may range from increased permeability of capillaries to hemorrhage. Tissue necrosis may result from prolonged ischemia owing to intravascular coagulation and severely impaired blood flow.

Microvasculature of the Feline Stomach

Cells Tissues Organs, 1988
The feline gastric microvasculature was studied by corrosion of the injected vascular bed, which allowed evaluation of the vascular pattern of the different tunics. The serosal pattern consisted of numerous interconnected capillary vessels, forming a delicate network. Submucosal arteries supplied the muscular tunic through numerous anastomosing vessels

Rheology of Blood in the Microvasculature

New England Journal of Medicine, 1964
THE flow of blood through the microvasculature is as vital to life as that through the heart and great vessels.

Ultrastructural characterization of microvasculature in photoaging

Journal of Dermatological Science, 2001
The cutaneous microvasculature was examined by electron microscopy in order to compare its characteristics in photodamaged preauricular skin and in sun-protected postauricular sites of 15 Japanese women aged 58-81 years. The characteristic ultrastructural features of the microvasculature in photodamaged skin compared with those in sun-protected skin ...

Microvasculature of bone

Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism, 1989
The three dimensional vascular microarchitecture of mercox resin on the lateral surface of parietal bone in Wistar strain adult male rats (b. w. 260–350 g.) was studied in relation to bone formation by SEM observation of corrosion casts.

Microvasculature of the Ovary

1991
Oocyte development and hormone secretion are mutually related functions of the ovary. Oocytes develop and mature within developing follicles. Ovarian hormones are secreted from the stromal intersitial tissue, follicle, and corpora lutea, which are transformed from postovulatory follicles.
