Absorption of Microwaves by Microorganisms
Nature, 1969RECENTLY S. J. W. and Dodds reported that 136 GHz microwaves interfere with the growth of Escherichia coli cells1. Here we report further investigations of the absorption of 65 to 75 GHz microwaves by cells of E. coli BR as well as isolated protein, RNA and DNA, and its effect on some metabolic processes. Our equipment has been described1,2. Cells were

Microwave absorption spectroscopy of DNA
Biopolymers, 1993AbstractBy utilizing a novel approach to microwave spectrometry, we have measured the absolute absorption spectrum of plasmid DNA (pUC8.c2), in buffered aqueous solution, from 5 to 20 GHz. Our technique does not suffer from the same experimental difficulties that plague other methods.

Periodic microwave absorption in superconductors
Physical Review B, 1994A model explaining the presence of a periodic train of microwave absorption lines in the magnetic modulated microwave absorption (MMMA) spectra of high- and low-temperature superconductors is proposed. The model assumes the occurrence of regular superconducting current loops, closed by Josephson junctions, in these materials.

Microwave Radiation Absorption
Health Physics, 1991The literature contains much evidence that absorption of microwave energy will lead to behavioral changes in man and laboratory animals. The changes include simple perturbations or outright stoppage of ongoing behavior. On one extreme, intense microwave absorption can result in seizures followed by death.

Nonlinear absorption of intense microwave pulses
Physical Review Letters, 1987Free-electron lasers in the electron cyclotron frequency range have been proposed as an efficient means of heating and driving current in tokamak plasmas. The proposed free-electron laser will have short pulses (approx. =5 x 10/sup -8/ sec) with a peak power of (4--8) x 10Z W and electric fields within the plasma in the range 10V--10W V/cm.

Microwave absorption by folded DNA chains
Biopolymers, 1982AbstractAbsorption of radiation by DNA polymer is calculated for the case of bent polymer chains. The molecule is assumed to be straight except for localized bends. The region between two bends is studied in particular. The vibrational properties of the bends are parameterized by a transmission and a reflection coefficient.

Nonlinear microwave absorption in Ba1−xKxBiO3
Physica C: Superconductivity, 1994Nonlinear, field-modulated, direct microwave absorption (FMMA) was observed in copper-free Ba1-xKxBiO3 powder samples. The high-field, low-temperature results were compared to previous measurements of YBa CuO and BiSrCaCuO. The microwave wave determined critical field μ0H* = 0.7 μT and depinning current density J* c ≈ 1 × 107 A/m2 were obtained from ...

Microwave Absorption Behaviour
2016The high-frequency absorption behaviour of amorphous ferromagnetic materials, among others, is of considerable interest for microwave absorber applications (Vazquez and Adenot-Engelvin in J Magn Magn Mater 321:2066–2073, 2009). Since amorphous glass-coated microwires have small dimensions (1–30 µm in diameter), high electrical conductivity (~6×105 S/m),
