An Enhanced Resolution Brightness Temperature Product for Future Conical Scanning Microwave Radiometers [PDF]
An enhanced spatial resolution brightness temperature product is proposed for future conical scan microwave radiometers. The technique is developed for Copernicus Imaging Microwave Radiometer (CIMR) measurements that are simulated using the CIMR antenna pattern at the L-band and the measurement geometry proposed in the Phase A study led by Airbus.

Weather influence on passive microwave brightness temperatures
Sea ice charts produced using spacebornc passive microwave observations are used on routine basis at several ice forecasting centres and during sea ice research campaigns. The capability of passive microwave sensors to monitor the earth, regardless of cloud cover or daylight, and the 1400 km swath width (SSM/I) make these sensors well suited not only ...

Microwave Brightness Temperatures from Tilted Convective Systems [PDF]
Aircraft and ground-based radar data from the Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere Coupled Ocean– Atmosphere Response Experiment show that convective systems are not always vertical. Instead, many are tilted from vertical.

Fundamental Climate Data Records of Microwave Brightness Temperatures [PDF]
An intercalibrated Fundamental Climate Data Record (FCDR) of brightness temperatures (Tb) has been developed using data from a total of 14 research and operational conical-scanning microwave imagers. This dataset provides a consistent 30+ year data record of global observations that is well suited for retrieving estimates of precipitation, total ...

Snow stratigraphic heterogeneity within ground-based passive microwave radiometer footprints: implications for emission modeling [PDF]
Two-dimensional measurements of snowpack properties (stratigraphic layering, density, grain size and temperature) were used as inputs to the multi-layer Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) microwave emission model at a centimeter-scale horizontal ...

The Development of Microwave Thermal Analysis (MWTA)and its application to the study of Carbons and other materials [PDF]
This research involves the development of a totally new approach to thermal analysis in which microwave energy is used not only to heat the sample but also to detect thermally induced transformations via the effects of changes in its dielectric ...

Constraining Microwave Brightness Temperatures by Radar Brightband Observations
Multichannel microwave sensors make it possible to construct physically based rainfall retrieval algorithms. In these schemes, errors arising from the inaccuracy of the physical modeling of the cloud system under observation have to be accounted for. The melting layer has recently been identified as a possible source of bias when stratiform events are ...
