Exogenous oxidized phytosterol may modulate linoleic acid metabolism through upregulation of fatty acid desaturase in rats

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
Abstract Previous in vitro studies have indicated that oxidized phytosterol (OPS) exhibits some toxicity; however, the harmful effects of OPS on fatty acid metabolism are not completely understood yet. Therefore, this study examined the effects of exogenous phytosterol (PS) and OPS on growth parameters and lipid metabolism in rats.

Evaluating sulfurization as a blue carbon sink in a southern California salt marsh

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue 7, Page 1981-1991, July 2025.
Abstract Blue carbon ecosystems such as seagrass meadows, mangrove forests, and salt marshes are important carbon sinks that can store carbon for millennia. Recently, organic matter sulfurization and pyritization have been proposed as mechanisms of net carbon storage in blue carbon ecosystems. At our study site, organic sulfur that is resistant to acid

Embedding a multichannel ion‐sensitive field‐effect transistor‐pH sensor array in marine sediments: a new approach for continuous in situ pH monitoring

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Human activities have significantly increased carbon dioxide emissions, leading to global warming and ocean acidification, which threaten marine ecosystems, including coral reefs with high biodiversity. Coral reef maintenance relies on a balance between calcium carbonate formation and dissolution. Among the processes, sandy sediments, covering

One‐Pot Vinyl Sulfone‐Modification of Agarose to Yield Soluble Materials with Altered Rheological Properties for Thiol‐Ene Bioconjugation

open access: yesMacromolecular Chemistry and Physics, EarlyView.
“Click”‐Platform: Completely soluble vinyl sulfone‐agarose is synthesized through a direct one‐pot functionalization of the algae polysaccharide. This highly reactive agarose displays thermal gelation behavior with altered rheological properties and can therefore act as a versatile platform material.

Mesenchymal Stem Cell‐Engrafted Bacterial Cellulose and Graphene Oxide Scaffolds Enhance Peripheral Nerve Repair in a Rat Model

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates the use of graphene oxide‐decorated bacterial cellulose (BC/GO) scaffolds combined with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to enhance axonal regeneration after sciatic nerve injury in rats. Graphene oxide is embedded monodispersely into the BC fibrillar matrix.
