The current state of the art in mid-infrared fiber lasers is reviewed in this chapter. The relevant fiber-host materials such as silicates, fluorides, chalcogenides, and ceramics, the fiber, pump, and resonator geometries, and the spectroscopic properties of rare-earth ions are introduced. Lasers at transitions ranging from 1.9 to 4 μm occurring in the

Mid-infrared Er:YAP vortex laser
Optica Advanced Photonics Congress 2022, 2022We demonstrate the direct generation of vortex beam in a mid-infrared Er:YAP laser with the annular pumping scheme. The operation wavelength can be switched from 2795 nm to 2921 nm by adjusting the pump power.

Mid-Infrared Femtosecond Lasers
Advanced Solid-State Lasers Congress, 2013Recent breakthroughs in femtosecond lasers operating directly in the mid-infrared wavelength region enabled generation of Watt-level output with ~10-nJ pulses and only 5 optical cycles duration, demonstrating interesting nonlinear-optical phenomena and opening new application possibilities.

We review recent progress in the development of mid–infrared (mid–IR) quantum–well lasers with type–II antimonide ‘W’ active regions. Optically pumped W lasers achieved continuous–wave (CW) operation nearly to room temperature, and CW output powers exceeding 0.5 W per facet at 77 K.

GaInAsSb Mid-infrared diode lasers
1994 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe, 1994For the past six years, Lincoln Laboratory has been developing mid-infrared diode lasers based upon GaInAsSb/AlGaAsSb heterostructures grown on GaSb substrates by molecular beam epitaxy.1-4 Compactness and efficiency make diode lasers very desirable in the mid infrared for optical pumping solid-state lasers and for direct sources in this spectral range,

Laser Sclerostomy Ab Externo Using Mid Infrared Lasers
Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1993ABSTRACT An ab externo fistulizing procedure (sclerostomy) was performed in vivo in 48 rabbit eyes using a pulsed (20 µs and 200 µs) Holmium:YAG (Ho:YAG) laser (2120 nm) and a pulsed (200 µs) Erbium:YAG (ErYAG) laser (2940 nm). The laser energy was delivered via an infrared transmitting fiber in contact with the sclera, with the fiber ...

Mid-infrared quantum cascade lasers
Laser Technology 2018: Progress and Applications of Lasers, 2018We report recent results of works on quantum cascade lasers at the Institute of Electron Technology. During that time we have developed technology of lasers emitting at wavelengths 9.0–9.5 μm and 4.7 μm, based on InGaAs/AlGaAs/GaAs and InAlAs/InGaAs/InP heterostructures; both lattice matched and strain compensated.
