GeSn-based light sources and photoconductors towards integrated photonics for the mid-infrared

2017 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series (SUM), 2017
GeSn-based optically pumped lasers and photoconductors have been systematically investigated. The operation wavelength of these devices covers 2–3 μm. Since GeSn technique is fully compatible with current CMOS process, the GeSn-based devices can be widely used in the area of Si integrated photonics.

NDIR gas sensing using high performance AlInSb mid-infrared LEDs as light source

Infrared Sensors, Devices, and Applications VII, 2017
In this paper, we report the performance of room temperature operated mid-infrared light emitting diode (LED) with an InSb buffer layer and AlInSb active/barrier layers, which showed to be suitable for non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensing. Characterization of the LED was performed and we found that good carrier confinement and crystalline quality

Mid-Infrared Four-Wave Mixing in Silicon Waveguides Using Telecom-Compatible Light Sources

Frontiers in Optics 2009/Laser Science XXV/Fall 2009 OSA Optics & Photonics Technical Digest, 2009
We report four-wave mixing in silicon waveguides in the spectral region beyond 2 ?m using infrared signals derived from telecom-compatible fiber-optic sources. We measure a high value of the nonlinear parameter gamma = 103 /(Wm).

A BaGa4Se7 crystal based pulsed mid-infrared light source with a narrow linewidth in 4–12 µm

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2023
We present a BaGa4Se7 (BGSe) crystal based coherent pulsed light source for high resolution mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy in the 4–12 µm region. The all-solid-state system consists of an injection seeded optical parametric generator (OPG) and an optical parametric amplifier (OPA) using two KTiOPO4 crystals.

Multi-Wavelength Spectroscopic Application Using Rapid and Random Wavelength-Tuned Mid-Infrared Light Source

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2010
We report a rapid and random wavelength-tuned mid-infrared (IR) light source with difference-frequency generation, using an electronically tuned dual-wavelength-oscillated Ti:Al2O3 laser. A tuning range from 5.4 to 8.2 µm is achieved. The wavelength stability of the mid-IR radiation is measured to be less than ±1.1 ×10-3 µm, and we realize rapid and ...

Chalcogenide waveguides as a base for engineering broadband light sources in the mid-infrared

2011 13th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks, 2011
Chalcogenide glasses are important for applications in the mid-infrared (IR) spectral range because of their good mid-IR transparency and their high non-linear refractive indices. Our research is focused on creation of mid-IR supercontinuum sources. Numerical modelling of the ultra-short pulse propagation in various kinds of chalcogenide waveguides is ...

Quantum cascade lasers: new resonant tunnelling light sources for the mid-infrared

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 1996
Recent results on quantum cascade lasers are reviewed. In these quantum devices based on resonant tunnelling the wavelength can be selected over a broad range of the infrared spectrum using the same heterostructure material by tailoring the active layer thickness.

Broadly tunable mode-hop-free mid-infrared light source with MgO:PPLN continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator

Optics Letters, 2012
We report a continuous-wave, broadly tunable mid-infrared MgO:PPLN optical parametric oscillator pumped by a fiber amplifier. Using pump tuning with synchronized temperature optimization, we achieve the broadest mode-hop-free (MHF) tuning of idler light over 30 cm(-1).

Assessment of quantum cascade lasers as mid infrared light sources for measurement of aqueous samples

Vibrational Spectroscopy, 2002
Abstract The potential of Fabry Perot Quantum Cascade (QC) lasers for transmission measurements of aqueous samples was assessed. For this purpose two lasers, one lasing in the region of the bending vibration of water at 1650 cm −1 , and the other in the water window at 1080 cm −1 , were used in a flow injection system comprising a dedicated fibre ...
