Star Formation in the Bok Globule CB54 [PDF]
We present mid-infrared (10.4, 11.7, and 18.3 μm) imaging intended to locate and characterize the suspected protostellar components within the Bok globule CB54. We detect and confirm the protostellar status for the near-infrared source CB54YC1-II.

Luminescent ion-doped transparent glass ceramics for mid-infrared light sources [invited]
Glass ceramics (GCs), which consist essentially of a homogeneous solid state dispersion of nanocrystals (NCs) embedded in a chemically inert and mechanically robust glass matrix, appear to be an extremely promising class of solid state materials that can be easily tailored into arbitrary shapes, including a new generation of optical fibers, for ...

Sub-picosecond tunable mid-infrared light source for driving high-efficiency optical rectification
Optical rectification (OR) is a popular way to generate coherent terahertz radiation. Here, we develop a sub-picosecond mid-infrared (mid-IR) light source with a tailored wavelength and pulse duration for enhancing the OR efficiency. Numerical simulations for a LiNbO3-based OR with tilted pulse-front excitation are first conducted to determine the ...

Frequency Chirped Intensity Modulated Mid-Infrared Light Source Based on Optical Parametric Oscillation [PDF]
Optical carried microwave radar (OCMR) has better resistance to turbulence and scattering than conventional laser radar for using intensity modulated laser beam as detection medium. Intensity modulated mid-infrared source is the key to mid-infrared OCMR system. A frequency chirped intensity modulated mid-infrared light source with tunable wavelength is

Mid-infrared Identification of 6 cm Radio Source Counterparts in the Extended Groth Strip [PDF]
A new 6-cm survey of almost 0.6 square degrees to a limit of 0.55-mJy/beam (10-sigma) finds 37 isolated radio sources and 7 radio source pairs (not necessarily physical companions).

Mid-Infrared nonlinear silicon photonics [PDF]
Recently there has been a growing interest in mid-infrared (mid-IR) photonic technology with a wavelength of operation approximately from 2-14 mu m. Among several established mid-IR photonic platforms, silicon nanophotonic platform could potentially ...

Morphological Classification of Local Luminous Infrared Galaxies [PDF]
We present an analysis of the morphological classification of 89 luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) from the Great Observatories All-sky LIRG Survey (GOALS) sample using non-parametric coefficients and compare their morphology as a function of wavelength.

First Detection of Mid-Infrared Variability from an Ultraluminous X-Ray Source Holmberg II X-1 [PDF]
We present mid-infrared (IR) light curves of the Ultraluminous X-ray Source (ULX) Holmberg II X-1 from observations taken between 2014 January 13 and 2017 January 5 with the \textit{Spitzer Space Telescope} at 3.6 and 4.5 $\mu$m in the \textit{Spitzer ...

Semiconductor light sources for near- and mid-infrared spectral ranges
1550 nm band wafer-fused vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and 5-10 μm band multi-stages quantum-cascade lasers (QCL) grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) were fabricated and studied. VCSELs show high output optical power up to 6 mW in single-mode regime (SMSR > 40 dB) and open-eye diagrams at 30 Gbps of standard NRZ at 20°C.
