Mid-infrared long-pass filter for high-power applications based on grating diffraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A gold-coated silicon grating has been developed, enabling efficient spatial separation of broadband mid-infrared (MIR) beams with wavelengths >5  μm from collinearly propagating, broadband, high-power light in the near-infrared (NIR) spectral range ...

Semiconductor light sources for near- and mid-infrared spectral ranges

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2017
1550 nm band wafer-fused vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and 5-10 μm band multi-stages quantum-cascade lasers (QCL) grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) were fabricated and studied. VCSELs show high output optical power up to 6 mW in single-mode regime (SMSR > 40 dB) and open-eye diagrams at 30 Gbps of standard NRZ at 20°C.

Luminescent ion-doped transparent glass ceramics for mid-infrared light sources [invited]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2020
Glass ceramics (GCs), which consist essentially of a homogeneous solid state dispersion of nanocrystals (NCs) embedded in a chemically inert and mechanically robust glass matrix, appear to be an extremely promising class of solid state materials that can be easily tailored into arbitrary shapes, including a new generation of optical fibers, for ...

Star Formation in the Bok Globule CB54 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We present mid-infrared (10.4, 11.7, and 18.3 μm) imaging intended to locate and characterize the suspected protostellar components within the Bok globule CB54. We detect and confirm the protostellar status for the near-infrared source CB54YC1-II.

First Detection of Mid-Infrared Variability from an Ultraluminous X-Ray Source Holmberg II X-1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present mid-infrared (IR) light curves of the Ultraluminous X-ray Source (ULX) Holmberg II X-1 from observations taken between 2014 January 13 and 2017 January 5 with the \textit{Spitzer Space Telescope} at 3.6 and 4.5 $\mu$m in the \textit{Spitzer ...

Sub-picosecond tunable mid-infrared light source for driving high-efficiency optical rectification

open access: yesOptics Express, 2023
Optical rectification (OR) is a popular way to generate coherent terahertz radiation. Here, we develop a sub-picosecond mid-infrared (mid-IR) light source with a tailored wavelength and pulse duration for enhancing the OR efficiency. Numerical simulations for a LiNbO3-based OR with tilted pulse-front excitation are first conducted to determine the ...

The Role of Dust in Producing the Cosmic Infrared Background [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The extragalactic background light (EBL), exclusive of the cosmic microwave background, consists of the cumulative radiative output from all energy sources in the universe since the epoch of recombination.

Morphological Classification of Local Luminous Infrared Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present an analysis of the morphological classification of 89 luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) from the Great Observatories All-sky LIRG Survey (GOALS) sample using non-parametric coefficients and compare their morphology as a function of wavelength.

Brightness and Fluctuation of the Mid-Infrared Sky from AKARI Observations towards the North Ecliptic Pole

open access: yes, 2012
We present the smoothness of the mid-infrared sky from observations by the Japanese infrared astronomical satellite AKARI. AKARI monitored the north ecliptic pole (NEP) during its cold phase with nine wavebands covering from 2.4 to 24 micron, out of ...
