The Early Spectrophotometric Evolution of V1186 Scorpii (Nova Scorpii 2004 #1)
We report optical photometry and optical through mid-infrared spectroscopy of the classical nova V1186 Sco. This slowly developing nova had an complex light curve with multiple secondary peaks similar to those seen in PW Vul.

New Opportunities in Mid-Infrared Emission Control
Tunable laser absorption spectroscopy (TLAS) has been well accepted as a preferred measurement technique for many industrial applications in recent years, especially for in situ applications. Previously, mainly near-infrared lasers have been used in TLAS

Mid-IR plasmon-mediated photoluminescence from gallium-doped zinc oxide bow-tie nanoantennas [PDF]
Semiconductor devices that interact with mid-infrared (mid-IR) wavelengths have a variety of applications in communications, sensing, and defense. However, most mid-IR sources, particularly incoherent emitters, are practically limited as a result of ...

Electro-optical switching in a nonlinear metasurface
Nonlinear metasurfaces are multifunctional photonic elements that generate and control light, enabling multiple proof-of-principle applications, such as in nonlinear holography, beam shaping, and nanoscale sources of entangled photon pairs. Active tuning

Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) arise from the thermonuclear explosions of white dwarfs in multiple-star systems. A rare subclass of SNe Ia exhibit signatures of interaction with circumstellar material (CSM), allowing for direct constraints on companion ...

Phase Lags in the Optical-Infrared Light Curves of AGB Stars
To search for phase lags in the optical-infrared light curves of asymptotic giant branch stars, we have compared infrared data from the COBE DIRBE satellite with optical light curves from the AAVSO and other sources. We found 17 examples of phase lags in

2 μm Broadband Amplification in Tapered Fiber Devices Using PbS Quantum Dots
Broadband optical amplifiers operating in the 2 μm spectral region are critical for advancing mid-infrared photonic systems, yet achieving high gain with low noise remains challenging.

Extending PLE models into the mid-IR, far-IR & sub-mm
Simple pure luminosity evolution (PLE) models, in which galaxies brighten at high redshift due to increased star-formation rates (SFRs), are known to provide a good fit to the colours and number counts of galaxies throughout the optical and near-infrared.
