Point and Risk estImation Using an enSemble of Models for Nowcasting: PRISM‐Now

open access: yesJournal of Forecasting, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We propose PRISM‐Now, a novel ensemble forecasting system for near‐term GDP projection. Recognizing that relevant economic information evolves over time, we treat forecasts from multiple base models as draws from a mixture distribution of “good” and “bad” estimates, whose composition changes continuously and cannot be identified ex ante.

Multifactorial Screening for Fine‐Scale Selection of CCS Industrial Clusters and Hubs in Brazil

open access: yesGreenhouse Gases: Science and Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As Brazil moves toward implementing its decarbonization commitments, carbon capture and storage (CCS) hubs are emerging as a key pathway for large‐scale CO2 abatement in hard‐to‐abate sectors. This paper presents a multifactorial, data‐driven framework to screen and prioritize potential CCS industrial clusters and hubs across Brazilian regions,

Mid IR Silicon Photonics

Frontiers in Optics 2016, 2016
In this paper we present a review of passive and active photonic devices in three mid-IR silicon photonics material platforms: germanium on silicon, suspended silicon and silicon on insulator (SOI).

Mid-IR Supercontinuum Generation

Advanced Photonics 2018 (BGPP, IPR, NP, NOMA, Sensors, Networks, SPPCom, SOF), 2018
Output pulses from an ultrafast holmium-praseodymium co-doped fiber ring laser are spectrally broadened in different highly nonlinear chalcogenide fibers. Moderate levels of broadening are achieved in step-index fibers and the effect is utilized for nonlinear pulse compression. Much larger broadening factors can be observed in suspended-core fibers and

Mid-IR intracavity OPO

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
The mid-infrared spectral region is of significant interest due to the atmospheric absorption lines present in this region. We report the development of a compact, highly efficient, high power intra-cavity pumped all-solid-state optical parametric oscillator (OPO) producing nanosecond pulses with an output tunable from 1.5 microns to 3.4 microns with

Mid-IR chalcogenide fiber

2015 IEEE Summer Topicals Meeting Series (SUM), 2015
High-purity chalcogenide glasses and fiber draw processes enable the production of high-quality mid-infrared (mid-IR) fibers for 1.5–10 μm transmission. Multimode and single-mode mid-IR fibers with low-loss ( 20kpsi) show high-power transmission.

Epitaxial mid-IR nanophotonic optoelectronics

Applied Physics Letters, 2022
There are a range of fundamental challenges associated with scaling optoelectronic devices down to the nano-scale, and the past decades have seen significant research dedicated to the development of sub-diffraction-limit optical devices, often relying on the plasmonic response of metal structures.

Broadband mid-IR chalcogenide fiber couplers

Applied Optics, 2019
We demonstrate a broadband As2S3-based fiber coupler operating up to the 5.4 μm wavelength range developed by using a fused biconical tapering technique. During the manufacturing process, real-time data monitoring of the coupling ratio was at 2.64 μm. The measurement of minimal excess loss was at less than 1 dB in the range of 5-5.4 μm.

Mid-IR super-continuum generation

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
A Mid-InfraRed FIber Laser (MIRFIL) has been developed that generates super-continuum covering the spectral range from 0.8 to 4.5 microns with a time-averaged power as high as 10.5W. The MIRFIL is an all-fiber integrated laser with no moving parts and no mode-locked lasers that uses commercial off-the-shelf parts and leverages the mature telecom ...
