Spontaneous Midbrain Hemorrhage

Southern Medical Journal, 1990
Spontaneous (nontraumatic) midbrain hemorrhage (SMH) is an uncommon condition whose diagnosis is greatly assisted by the use of cranial computerized tomography. Of 18 cases described in the English language literature, only two were diagnosed without the aid of CT. We report five cases of SMH in five normotensive patients.

Craniopharyngioma With Midbrain Involvement

Archives of Neurology, 1979
An adult patient had a cranlopharyngloma that involved and displaced the midportion of the midbrain, producing Weber's syndrome. Oculomotor paresis in cranlopharyngloma is not always due to parasellar involvement but may be due to midbrain involvement.

Microsurgery of Midbrain Lesions

1988
Between 1973 and 1987 a total of 38 patients with midbrain lesions were encountered. In 15 cases surgical exploration was not warranted, 23 patients underwent definitive surgical exploration. The infratentorial supracerebellar approach proved to be the ideal route for the exposure of the 21 lesions which were located in the more dorsal aspect of the ...

Primary midbrain germinoma

British Journal of Neurosurgery, 2004
Intracranial germinomas arising primarily in the midbrain are extremely rare and only one case has been reported in the literature. A 15-year-old boy presented with headache, diplopia, unsteadiness and personality changes. Brain MRI showed a heterogeneous lesion in the midbrain. The pineal body region was free. The preoperative diagnosis included brain-

Specification of midbrain territory

Cell and Tissue Research, 2004
The vertebrate neural plate is subdivided into four distinct territories comprising the presumptive forebrain, midbrain, hindbrain, and the spinal cord, shortly after gastrulation. Initially, this subdivision relies on a defined pattern of expression of distinct transcription and secreted factors within the newly formed neuroectoderm, even before ...
