Emotional Symptoms and Health Complaints for Patients Seeking Psychomotor Physiotherapy

open access: yesFysioterapeuten, 2008
Aim: Because patients seeking Norwegian psychomotor physiotherapy (PMF) rarely have been described with validated, psychometrically sound instruments, we used six questionnaires to characterize these patients in terms of subjective health complaints and ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

The Effect of Aquatic Balance Exercise With Weighted Vest on the Balance Recovery Strategy of Middle-Aged Women

open access: yesPhysical Treatments, 2018
Purpose: Disturbances in balance and also regaining the balance strategy is very important in the middle-aged women who are near their menopause and subject to severe hormonal and physiological changes, reduced muscle strength, and decreased bone density.

Older Workers and On-the-Job Training in Canada: Evidence from the WES Data [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper provides evidence of on-the-job training among older workers in Canada. It also examines the effect of age associated with on-the-job training.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The clinical utility and safety of biomarker-guided immunosuppression withdrawal in liver transplantation: the LIFT prospective RCT

open access: yesEfficacy and Mechanism Evaluation
Background Long-term surviving liver transplant recipients can spontaneously develop operational tolerance, which allows them to completely discontinue their immunosuppression, but we lack validated tools to predict the likelihood of rejection following ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
