Mid-infrared interferometry of the massive young stellar object NGC3603 - IRS 9A

open access: yes, 2010
We present observations and models for one of these MYSO candidates, NGC3603 IRS 9A. Our goal is to investigate with infrared interferometry the structure of IRS 9A on scales as small as 200AU, exploiting the fact that a cluster of O and B stars has ...

Targeting hexokinase 2 to induce breast cancer cell senescence

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Hexokinase 2 (HK2) is a key enzyme linked to high tumour cell proliferation. Its inhibitors such as 3‐bromopyruvic acid (3‐BP) induce cancer cell death, highlighting HK2 modulation as potential anti‐cancer treatment. However, standard chemotherapies often cause the emergence of senescent cancer cells, which goes along with cell ...

The Original Beat: An Electronic Music Production System and Its Design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The barrier to entry in electronic music production is high. It requires expensive, complicated software, extensive knowledge of music theory and experience with sound generation.

Dual pharmacological targeting of coactivator‐associated arginine methyltransferase 1 (CARM1) and salt inducible kinase (SIK) drives ketogenesis in both hepatocytes and mice

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Ketone bodies are liver‐derived circulating energy metabolites that positively impact most hallmarks of ageing. Ketone bodies increase during calorie restriction and fasting, two of the more widely perceived methods to increase health span.

Development and analytical validation of a targeted short‐read next generation sequencing‐based pharmacogenetic panel for comprehensive variant detection

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Genomic profiling of patients for genetic variants that modify the effect of specific medications has many benefits, including the possibility of avoiding toxicities and ensuring an adequate effect of the medication. Our intention was to develop a comprehensive, high‐quality pharmacogenetic test panel for clinical use ...

Transient Hyperparathyroidism and Severe Intrauterine Osteopenia Linked to Novel Homozygous TRPV6 Deletion

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Context Placental calcium (Ca2+) transport is essential for foetal bone mineralisation and development, as well as for Ca2+ homoeostasis. Rare mutations in transient receptor potential vanilloid (TRPV) 6 of the infant cause insufficient maternal‐foetal Ca2+ transport through the placenta.

Efficiency of Optimized Approaches for Gravity Operator Modeling

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Numerical tesseroid and radial-type approaches are presented and compared in terms of their efficiency for deriving the regional geoid height, vertical gravity, and gradiometric anomalies from sea floor topography grids. The vertical gradient function is

Analysis of Human Uniparental Embryonic Stem Cells Reveals New Putative Imprinted Loci

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
To identify novel imprinted genes, parthenogenetic, androgenetic and biparental human embryonic stem cells and their differentiated neural progenitors were analysed by methylome and transcriptome profiling. This approach uncovered 12 putative novel imprinted genes, including a clustered region on chromosome 19, expanding the current catalogue of ...

Quantitative analysis of DNA‐GATA1 binding alterations linked to hematopoietic disorders

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Native holdup allows the quantitative determination of affinities between full‐length transcription factors and DNA. Mutations in either the protein or the DNA can modulate binding strength, which can be precisely quantified using this approach. Applied to GATA1, it revealed mutations that alter DNA binding.

The MIDI pick

open access: yesProceedings of the 7th international conference on New interfaces for musical expression - NIME '07, 2007
The guitar pick has traditionally been used to strike or rakethe strings of a guitar or bass, and in rarer instances, ashamisen, lute, or other stringed instrument. The pressure exerted on it, however, has until now been ignored. The MIDI Pick, an enhanced guitar pick, embraces this dimension, acting as a trigger for serial data, audio samples,MIDI ...
