Distribution and abundance of large pelagic predatory bony fishes in the northwestern Pacific over a half-century

open access: yesWater Biology and Security
Large pelagic predatory fishes play an important role in marine ecosystems, occupying the highest position in food webs and accumulating energy and organic matter produced by aquatic organisms of lower trophic levels. Among pelagic predatory fishes, more

Feeding ecology of juvenile Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus spp.) in a northeast Pacific fjord: diet, availability of zooplankton, selectivity for prey, and potential competition for prey resources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We investigated the feeding ecology of juvenile salmon during the critical early life-history stage of transition from shallow to deep marine waters by sampling two stations (190 m and 60 m deep) in a northeast Pacific fjord (Dabob Bay, WA) between May ...

The Threatened Status of Steller Sea Lions, Eumetopias jubatus, under the Endangered Species Act: Effects on Alaska Groundfish Fisheries Management [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
In April 1990, the Steller sea lion, Eumetopias jubatus, was listed as threatened under the U.S. Endangered Species Act by emergency action. Competitive interactions with the billion-dollar Alaska commercial groundfish fisheries have been suggested as ...

Comparative captures of pelagic cephalopods by midwater trawls

open access: yes, 1977
The captures of pelagic cephalo pods by the 3 m Isaacs-Kidd midwater trawl (IKMT), the 8m2 reetangular midwater trawl (RMT 8), and the small (1400 mesh) Engeltrawl (E.MT) are compared. The sampling site was a one-degree square area in the North Atlantic Ocean east of Bermuda known as Ocean Acre. The IKMT and the RMT 8 were equipped with closing devices.

IDEALIZING THE DESIGN MODEL OF THE ROPE PART OF THE MIDWATER TRAWL

open access: yesVestnik of Astrakhan State Technical University. Series: Fishing industry, 2018
The article presents a perspective approach to the analysis of a stress state of net gear. A set of assumptions and simplifications of determining the forces acting on the end part of the trawl have been proposed. In terms of strength analysis of the trawl gear elements, the rope section deserves a thorough study, since the rope section elements are ...
