Characteristics and Predictability of Midwestern United States Drought

Journal of Hydrometeorology, 2021
AbstractCharacteristics and predictability of drought in the Midwestern United States, spanning the Great Plains to the Ohio Valley, at local and regional scales are examined during 1916-2015. Given vast differences in hydroclimatic variability across the Midwest, drought is evaluated in four regions identified using a hierarchical clustering algorithm

ETIOLOGY OF SUPERFICIAL MYCOSES IN MIDWESTERN UNITED STATES

Archives of Dermatology, 1953
THIS paper presents a compilation and brief discussion of superficial mycoses observed in three widely separated areas of the midwestern United States. It will be noted that the incidence of infection with the various dermatophytes is not the same as in other reported studies.

Rural and urban midwestern United States contraception practices

Contraception, 2001
To address a paucity of demographic data on rural United States contraception practices, 370 randomly selected menstruating women, age 13-55 years, living in rural and urban Illinois and Missouri answered interview questions. Women with relatively few children and living in urban areas were likely to practice contraception more than those with ...

Upper mantle structure of midwestern United States

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1971
Body wave observations from nuclear events at the Nevada Test Site and several earthquakes in the western United States have been used to construct models of the P wave structure for the upper mantle. The Cagniard-deHoop technique for computing synthetic seismograms for laterally homogeneous earth models was used to fit both the amplitudes and the ...

A Winter Mesocyclone over the Midwestern United States

Weather and Forecasting, 1988
Abstract A diagonostic analysis is made of a midwinter mesoscale vortex that developed over the Mississippi Valley and produced moderate to heavy snow with gale force winds (>18 m s−1), lightning, and thunder along a narrow track approximately 1500 km in length. The mesoscale vortex resembled the so-called “polar lows” that form over the subpolar seas.

Changes in Heavy Rainfall in Midwestern United States

Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management, 1997
Characteristics of heavy rainfall events are important in the design of water-handling structures, agriculture, weather modification, and in monitoring climate change. Traditionally it is assumed that the extreme rainfall time series are stationary with no trends. This assumption may not be true for portions of the Midwestern United States.

Geology of Basement in Midwestern United States

AAPG Bulletin, 1965
A thick sedimentary cover over the midwestern United States has restricted geologic investigation of the basement complex in the past to a slow and fragmentary study based on a few deep wells. Recent basement studies have been stimulated by State-wide geophysical surveys now available for regional interpretation.
